    Smile Deleting one muffler

Would removing one out of the two mufflers cause any adverse affects to my car? I'm going to get a custom exhaust done later when I get a tune, but I'm just curious. One of my friends has it done to his a4 and it sounds goooood.

The resonators, or literally just the muffler from one side of the car?

I know it literally seems retarded, but it sounded really good in person, and I've been doing my homework on listening to all kinds of exhaust set ups.

Yes, removing either the right or left muffler.

I just want to know if it will fuck with backpressure in a negative way, or something like that.

Why would you want to remove one of the mufflers?

Back-pressure is non issue, but knowing that the symmetry is off would drive me crazy. And yeah, can't imagine it would sound good, but that's very subjective.

Yeah I would just be doing it for shits and giggles until I get a new exhaust set up. It's basically 50% of a muffler delete, and it sounds that way.

Interesting segway, one of the mustangs, I don't recall which one, but I remember reading it actually uses different sized mufflers on each side, something about reducing drone.

there will not be any adverse effects to you cutting off one muffler.

I say this in full confidence because the fact that you are willing to cut off one muffler tells me you're a wild, spontaneous and dare I say Crazy? kind of person who is obviously just looking for the next kookie thing to do.

And I say all of the above in complete sarcasm because i think its ridiculous to cut off one muffler.

Don't some Euro A4's some stock with a single muffler? Didn't Doctor go single exhaust?!? OP if you are going custom exhaust I see. No reason it wouldn't work. You just need a different rear valance.

Doctor and Fafa both run single muffler. You have to get the euro tdi 3.0 rear valance though. Part number: 8E0807521C

I plan on having the shop weld a straight pipe to maintain the two tips for now. Don't knock it until you hear it.

Im running no mufflers and preparing to cut out the resonator. Its not excessively loud although everybody has a different opinion of loud. Their are two clamps in front of the mufflers. I would remove the mufflers, listen to it, and then decide if you want to delete your muffler.(although it will probably sound weird with only one muffler) If you just want the look of a single exhaust i would delete the resonator and route only one pipe back.

Doctor has a single muffler because his 1.8t came like that. The new 2.0t is like that. No it will not hurt anything. Yes, it might increase sound. Will it sounds like crap with stock muffler? No clue. Just jam something in one tail pipe and find out.

It seems like there might be some confusion. I don't think the OP, is simply looking to just cut one muffler out, and rock it as is, half straight piped......... I don't get the comments about how it will sound. If the OP is doing a complete custom exhaust to a single outlet, why would it sound bad?!? The issue may be the wording "delete one muffler", which just meant going Single piped. With the right resonator, pipe diameter, and muffler, I doubt people would be able to notice it wasn't dual like most A4's.

I literally want to remove one muffler, and weld a straight pipe in its place. It will still be a twin exit exhaust, but one side will have the stock muffler, and the other will not.

I mentioned I wanted to do a proper custom exhaust in the future, but this is just for shits and giggles until my tune requires an upgraded exhaust.

The red is where the muffler used to be. Sorry about the confusion.

Wait....why would you retain the twin exit setup, when your exhaust is only going to be exiting out of one pipe? That would be like having twin turbo, but only have one of the turbos working, while the 2nd is just for looks. It serves no actual purpose. If I had the money and was going to go custom single, I would step outside the box and get a reputable Japanese exhaust. Like HKS, Greddy and RE Amemiya for example. I know there's more, but those come to mind. It's something different and not many have done, since most stay in the box and get the same thing over and over again.

based upon proven physics it will sounds louder due to that anything will travel to the path of least resistance therefor most of you engine exhaust will travel out of the straight pipe side as opposed to the side with the muffler... i am curious on how this will sound

Exactly. I never thought someone would want to delete one muffler and replace it with a straight pipe. I'd be less worried what it sounded like and more worried about how terrible it would look.

A muffler shop could cut the muffler open, gut it, then weld a pipe right through it, and close it back up. No one would ever know.

Judging from this post that's not what his plans are. Hence the reason I said it would look terrible with a muffler on one side and a straight pipe on the other. This hole thread is mass confusion.

I'll have a single 2.5" pipe full-stainless custom turbo-back exhaust which utilizes an RAI HFC and 2 in-series resonators for sale in a couple weeks if anyone is interested (similar to Geoffafa's). It was custom built for me while I save up for a Milltek. Each joint is fully welded. Only bolted part is the flange at the turbo. If anyone is interested, PM me an offer. It has about 200 miles on it.

Thank you for the stock number. Just got off the phone with Chris at Dtm Autowerks, and we are going to be going custom one pipe from the end of the row pipe back, 3" all the way with resonator, dual tip muffler (that's still in the air).

Oh yeah, another zombie bump for me today.

How does this sound? Is it the HFC and down pipe combo from RAI? I have the straight test pipe/down pipe from them....

Yes it is. That combo has about 30k miles on it and it has been great. Never threw a code even with stage 1 tune. It's all one piece now from turbo to back when I had a new flex pipe welded on and the single pipe fabricated.

It was built for a Quattro manual, so doubt it would fit well with your tip (not sure if you were interested in it or not).
