Looking for Shops - Engine Rebuilds, Valve Jobs, Upgrade Cylinder Heads, Machine Shop

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

I checked out the list of recommended repair shops but there weren't any that were strictly machine shops that build engines.

Are there any that you recommend in the Greater LA area? Westside Los Angeles is preferred but will drive for quality work.

I believe the Cylinder Heads on my B5 S4 need a valve job/rebuild so someone that has Audi experience is preferred.

    Thanks for the help!
    Gabe

JL Automotive. I had my head rebuilt by one of his mechanics when my T belt went. Excellent work. I'm sure JL Automotive, WMS, or Eurowurx can help you out.

Besides the mentioned places, I plan on talking to Cosworth about it when the time comes. They are local and the main company did develop the modified version of our engine in the RS4.

If you are willing to wait... Had a client leave his car at my house while he was having Cosworth port and build his heads. Took 13 weeks, meanwhile his car sat at my house..

I just waited three years for my bodywork to finish. 13 weeks sounds like a breeze and I'm just happy to know Cosworth is available to do the work. Thanks!

When I was rebuilding my b5 s4 I sent my heads to Heads Above The Rest, I want to say they are in the Fullerton area. I had them washed up and checked for cracks, sure enough I had a crack in the cylinder 2 exhaust port. Bunch of guys i work with sent stuff out there with out issue.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I hope that this thread can be useful for others as well.

Turns out, I don't believe any valves were bent. The symptoms I had were caused by both head gaskets burning out between the cylinders. I am still planning on getting the heads cleaned and checked for cracks.

I reached out to Mike at WMS since he is the closest and he wanted to do the whole engine swap or rebuild instead of just doing the engine. I reached out again once I found out the real problem and am hoping he would be willing to do this check/clean for me.

Thank Glyn! I'd definitely be talking to you about it before I did anything. Still a long ways off for me though.

Is that a question that you answered yourself or are you asking if they are still running? I haven't looked into it besides knowing they used to have a location in SoCal (Torrance, I think). I hope that's still the case when the time comes for me otherwise, I guess I'll be keeping track of this thread for other options.

Oh, i was asking if it was still running, forgot to input question mark. As far as i know, that facility shut down. I just Google'd it and it appears they did shut down their operations in the USA...

Whom does GMG use or they do it in house?

Oh, well that sucks...Their main website still says this:
Cosworth is headquartered in Northampton with additional facilities in Cambridge and Exeter in the UK and Torrance, Indianapolis and Mooresville in the USA.

Not sure who GMG uses but if I can't get Cosworth, I'll just see who Jose at Euro-Tech recommends for me and that's what I would do before I did anything anyways.

For an update, I ended up using Engler Bros on Pico in Santa Monica.

    http://www.englerbros.com/

Nice small shop that is on the Westside and has quick turn around. They used to do engine blocks but don't anymore as the guy retired. They did, however, do a great job with my heads.
