    Chrome window trim?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is it posible to retrofit it? Most people I've seen doing the opposite thing, painting it or wraping in black, but I never seen someone retrofitted OEM chrome trim.

I assume it's possible with trim removal tools, but it's probably pricey to get the parts. Have you looked into wrapping it with a brushed aluminum vinyl?

I don't think that wrapping would be same as OEM, especially because triangle on rear window is one piece. Someone here already did it, but I'm not satisfied with results. Do you maybe know approximate price for that part?

Looks pricey for all the pieces:

    http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A4-...ng_-and-_Trim/

I had mine wrapped (silver to black) -- turned out really nice. My rear triangle on both sides, however, is two pieces.

i would definitely just wrap it, taking off the trim itself is a pain and you have to start removing a lot of other stuff just to get to the trim, also i'm pretty sure it's pricey for the OEM aluminum trim (not really chrome on our windows, the grille surround is chrome, but the window is a nice satin aluminum like the S4 mirrors and splitter).

but yeah just go ahead and get it wrapped at a shop, with chrome vinyl or a glossy/brushed aluminum type color, will still be way cheaper and quicker than replacing the trim. also mine is 2 pieces there as well, but why does that matter for wrapping? 1 or 2 pieces it will still be wrappable and if wrapped properly it's not gonna look much different.

Maybe I am wrong, but if you don't have silver window trims, you dont have trims at all, just black rubber around the windows. At least it is in my 2009 Avant. How can you wrap the rubber with a vinyl?

I'll trade you straight up for my OEM aluminum trim. Do you have a picture of the window trim right now?

I would be down for that trade, only concern is can it all be removed without damaging any pieces?

I'm not sure, but I've been trying to get rid of this chrome trim for awhile now. Whether I was going to wrap it with vinyl or completely replace it (which is more desirable but WAY more expensive).

But what would be the replacement? There are no black trims available.

I think paper mache the window trim like a piñata would be a cool option.

Yeah that's a good option but I just haven't done it yet. I really don't want a matte black look on the trim though. I would probably wrap it so I could get a gloss black look.

Plasti dip makes a clear "glossifier" that you lay over the top of the black to give it that look. The Home Depot near me has it, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

the black rubber trim cant be wrapped as the vinyl wont stick. and replacing it for the chrome will need the quarter window to be cut out so its a big job for a diy
I wrapped my chrome trims in matt grey as it complements my red paint work and I didn't want to follow the crowd and go gloss black.

Here in Europe we do not have such packages as premium, premim plus or prestige. They're just for US market.

How well does Plasti Dip hold up to washing? I am concerned that dip on the window trim will come off easily.

usually dip should be sprayed 5+ coats, which isn't even bad considering how easy it is to use the product. if you spray too little, the dip could come off easily and would be a bitch to peel off.

As mentioned above, if it's applied well you won't have issues. If you don't put on enough coats it won't hold up and it won't be easy to remove, but if you prep correctly and put on a heavy application (I have 8 coats on my grille) it'll go through car washes, winter, whatever you can throw at it without a problem.

OK, I think those are the same what I have in my car, soft matte black rubber.
Are there any gloss black trims available which is made of some other material than rubber.

They're painted metal; the weatherstripping is rubber.

Yeah this is definitely becoming my quick DIY project for next weekend, I didn't know they had the gloss coat. What do you guys think about doing the side mirrors also? I think I want to do those also.

It would actually be easier if you did the mirrors as well, less to mask. Just tape off the turn signal and the actual glass mirror itself and you'd be good to go.
