NGK R5672A-8 (Copper, Non-Resistor plug) half review

Back in early march I did a tune up, filters, and a tune. I switched from factory plugs to NGK R5672A-8 (Copper, Non-Resistor plug) gapped 0.028. The reason why I went with this plug is because they would have had to order the other copper plugs that I wanted. I did a quick search and got Comfortable with basically just noise through the radio. At first the noise in the radio wasn't bad and then about 3 weeks into it the noise seemed to get worse with each passing week. I did notice that with the copper plugs, it did make the car behave better. Not necessarily more power maybe a few ponies but the spool seem a tad quicker and the engine over all seemed smoother. ( that is the half of the review).

Now late April or so, some of y'all I have talked about it to, I have had problems with my intake manifold flap motor. I had gotten the code for it, sputtering between 2500-3500 rpm. I would clear the codes and as soon as I start boosting higher than stock it would stutter and throw the flap motor code. My first though was that the non resistor plugs was giving too much feed back and screwing with things. I talked it over with my uncle (used to be a ase certified mechanic for Chevy) to see it this was a possibility. He assured me that it shouldn't be, all that it should affect would be the radio. So I took it in to the dealer to get the warranty work done on the tbs for the flap motor. They told me that the motor was fine, had some communication errors between that and the ecu, then they proceeded to tell me that they have figured it to be the flaps in the intake are worn out. I was like how is that possible when I don't even have 40k on the car. Well I took it I how it was. Fast forward to last week. The stutter had gotten worse, depending on which gear it would also stutter between 4500-5000 rpms. Then I started getting the flashing cel, misfire ok well I changed the plugs yesterday to bkr7e gapped to 0.031. Immediately I noticed a difference. For shits a giggles I decided to punch it in 2nd below 2k, what do you know, no stuttering at all. 3rd same thing. So since I was out I stopped be the parts store to clear the codes, quicker than going home updating the laptop and then clearing them. I then burned threw the gears and nothing. So it's been about 24 hrs about 100 miles and a speeding ticket, and I still have no codes or stuttering. I am going to keep an eye on it and report if by any chance this fixed the problem or not. Also I did try to run some logs, but I was by myself and every time the boost would kick in it would freeze up the laptop (safety feature).

Sorry for the rambling, it's just maybe a pleasant surprise.

    I'll just leave this here.

Why did you feel like buying totally random plugs in the first place?

In any event glad the proper spark plugs solved your issues. Might I suggest the iridium versions of what you have (BKR7EIX). They last around 40-50k miles vs the copper BKR7E plugs which last about 8-10k miles.

I wanted to go with copper, I will probably just switch to the iridium or the fdp5c or what ever the Bosch side fire are. The reason why I went with those particular ones was because the bkr8e that I wanted the would of had to be ordered so it was between auto lite ones or the non resistor ngk. So I chose the ngk, the reason why I didn't go a step colder than stock this time is because it's heading into winter and it will suite me just fine.

No need to go colder unless you're big turbo. I would stick with ngk7.

The bosch side fire plugs are very popular though.

Oh I know, from what I have researched they do an excellent job. Some people are jumping on those copper tri- ground strap ones. I don't know what they are called, they just remind me of the e3 plugs that a lot of people were raving about that turn out not that well.

Ok so just an update. It's been coming up 3 weeks, and still no cel, or mid rpm bs. Still pulls strong. So I am chalking it up that the non resistor plugs were messing with the ecu.
