2.0 TFSI 11 plate oil consumption and cylinder misfire problems.

    Hi all,

As it says in the title my 2.0 TFSI 11 plate has some problems that are a real concern for me.

    Firstly, the oil consumption problem.

I'm currently going through 1L of oil every 300/400 miles. I've been looking through the forums and many have said it could be the PCV, stems or replacement Piston rings. I've had the PCV replaced and there are no signs or symptoms of blue smoke, engine drinking the coolant etc there is nothing to suggest anything else other than the PCV, I've booked my car in to the local Audi dealer for an oil consumption test but at £190 just for the test i'm trying to get the problem solved myself before i get my bank account robbed blind by Audi.. Can anyone help and give me some suggestions as to what my next move should be?

Unfortunately my Audi has given me more problems, this time cylinder misfires.

around a week ago i was driving home i put my foot down and felt like the engine was tripping, jumping for a few seconds then ran okay then around 5 miles down the road it went into limp mode and the EPC and engine warning light started flashing (and also sometimes just static) on the dash, i took it to the garage it showed that cylinder 2 misfired, possible electrical/mechanical fault detected, got all the sparks replaced as they were all quite worn and had a little bit of oil on them, got the faults cleared and all seemed good then a couple days later it went back into limp mode and the same fault seemed to have occurred but this time cylinder 3 and 4 misfired and now the car is back into limp mode and the garage seem to be at a loss as to what the problem can be. suggested replacing ignition coils??? and could this be linked to my oil consumption problem?

    Any help is appreciated.

The missfire is classic symthoms of faild coilpack. Recomed you order the red Audi R8 coils. ECS is where i got mine. Just google it and you will find it.

There is a sticky-thread att hte top in the forum where you will get all the info you need regarding the oilconsumption.

Agreed with Benan, I had to replace two coil packs on mine and the symptoms were very similar to what you described. It's not expensive to fix by the standards of these cars. The oil consumption thread will probably be helpful to you, I just went through stage two (piston and ring replacement) and a lot of people have been covered free of charge in good faith even if they are out of warranty.

I would get the oil consumption issue dealt with first......i had multiple symptoms similar to yours while may car was going through 1 ltr of oil every 900 kms. Misfires, EPC light, wastegate misdiagnosis etc. Not sure whether you are still under warranty or if you have an extended warranty but this is a known issue that Audi should cover.....I had mine done on their dime at 146,000 kms....so 66,000 kms after my warranty expired. They covered everything. Also covered a carbon cleaning that also made a huge difference....I think. I would get a bit more aggressive with the service department....there is a TSB for oil consumption that you can mention to them.

    Thanks for the replies!

thanks for the advise Crucible! when i emailed the dealership the guy said that there will be a deduction in costs as a good will gesture due to the car having full Audi service history, but after seeing the posts in the oil consumption thread, many have got all the repairs free of charge minus the labour costs. I'm replacing the ignition coils this afternoon and hopefully this will fix one of problems with this utterly frustrating but amazing car!

Bit of an update, I've changed all the ignition coils and still getting a fault code for cylinder 3 misfire.. the car is constantly jerking, still have the EPC and engine light on the dash but it is now with the engine running not just with the ignition and i'm lost for ideas so i'm going to book it into a Bosch service certified garage to take a deeper look. i have changed all the spark plugs and coils.. what else could be the problem?

Another update.. just had another look over the ignition coils and noticed that the wiring from the maf sensor is damaged, the braiding has threaded and the plastic cover of the wire has split.. can this be one cause of the problem? couple of images below.

    sorry for all the posts!
