How do you grease your door hinges?

The OEM VW/Audi door hinge grease is "G 052 778 A2" and the manual calls for door hinge lubrication every so often. I forget the interval.

I use DuPont Teflon Multi-use Lubricant. It dries to a film.

I spray them with white lithium grease and then open/close them a few times. It always seems to stop the creaking on doors when I do it, so I guess that it works good enough.

drys up quick and it sucks, white lith grease is good , i personally use silicon based grease once a year and never have any noise

Does this not fall off? If the squeak comes back, then it must not be working? I recommend you give the DuPont teflon stuff a try, it dries to a film and stays on. I sprayed a bit like 15k mi ago, and no squeaks since. I should probably do it again, since I aggressively washed the hinge area when detailing my car..

I use WD-40.

WD-40 is a solvent and penetrating oil. That's like spraying your hinges with acetone or PB blaster. It dries things up in there, and the oily property of it attracts dirt. It is well-known amongst the lock-smith community to be a damager of lock cylinders, and is not to be sprayed into them to smooth things out..because while it may make something feel smoother, the squeak will return soon after, and damage will be done.

I like spray on drive chain lube. It goes on thin to penetrate into the hinge pivot, then gets a lot thicker as the solvent evaporates. After spraying the hinge, I wipe the over spray off with a rag. Other spray on lubes like WD 40 or dry lubes are not good enough for the hinges because they don't have a thick film that is able to cushion the hinge pivot, and do not resist water very well.

I'm curious about this too John. What specifically do you use? I like the idea of something that is a little thicker. I just did this today. Cleaned everything well with a toothbrush and warm soapy water, rinsed with clean water, dried the area then applied Wurth HHS-K.

I sprayed mine with Lucas chain lube. I used it on my coilover threads too. It dries on in a clear film that feels a tiny bit waxy

Yes, drive chain lube in a spray can.

Yeah, that looks good. I use chain lube because it sprays on thin to penitrate the hinge, then thickens up to a thick greasy remander that wont wash off easily.

I use a white lithium grease and after I spray it on I work the door back and forth then I wipe the excess off. Been doing this about once a year and I don't have squeaky doors on any of my vehicles
