They work well. No problems stopping or going. Once I get a few thousand km on them to run them in I will report back. But happy thus far.

    Hey guys,
I just picked up a 2015 SQ5, and have a set of new wheels with snow tires on the way. I see that I have to torque the lugs to 105ft/lbs. Can anyone tell me what size the lugs are? I have multiple 17mm sockets from my S4, hoping that these are still what I need. Also, I'm going with 255/50 on 19"s. What tire pressures are you guys running with 19s?
    Thanks!

Excuse my ignorance here as I struggle to comprehend/compute tire and wheel specs...but wouldn't going with a 245/55/19 be the best of both worlds? I'm still trying to put together a set up for my SQ5 in upstate NY. The 5ft of snow this week in Buffalo just missed us..kind of lit a fire under my ass to put winters on :)

I have a set of 19" S4 peelers with brand new 245/40 winter tires laying around. Can anyone verify if these will work on my SQ5? I don't care what it would look like

245/40/19 tires will not work. Not even close. Just line them up with your SQ5 wheels/tires and it will make sense very quickly. The peelers might work, but it depends on offset.

Just moved from Texas to New England and hunting out a set of winter wheels for my Sepang Blue SQ5. Found a set of nice wheels with Blizzacks, but they are 245/40/19. I get that the overall wheeel & tire diameter will be much smaller than the optional 21” wheels I am currently running and that the speedo will be way off, but why else would this wheel tire combo not work? Help would be appreciated and Thank you in advance!

Not a good idea imo, as that is 4.5% smaller than your current setup or 2.3 inches shorter in diameter. So besides the speedometer difference, you will be putting more miles than you are actually travelling on the vehicle because of the size difference. Basically an extra 4 miles every 90 actual miles traveled. I would look for a good set of 19s and put the correct tire size on them.

Thank you base14. If I did my math properly, I show the difference between a 235/55/19 (24.09”) and a 245/40/19 (22.86”) is only 1.23” difference. I had not thought about the mileage increase that would create.

Ignore my last comment, I didn’t realize the stock config with a 255/40/21 (25.02”) is already larger than the 235/55/19.

Perhaps it's not your math, but your sources. The 255/40-21 is 29 inches. The 255/45-20 is 29.1 inches. the 255/50-19 is 29.1 inches.
The overall height should be between 28.7" and 29.3".
Try this size calculator, which allows you to compare sizes and see how they track, which is good for staggered setups.

Those tires would be way too short. You need like 235/55 R19 at that width.

That's a 9% reduction in overall diameter. After 10,000 actual miles, the odometer will show 10,900 miles. That's 900 miles of depreciation every 10K driven. Highway mileage will suck. Why would you do this?
    Riceboy is right. You'll want either a 235/55 or possibly a 255/50.

I have narrowed down my choices of winter wheels / tires to the following:

    19x8.5 BBS SX at $1500 with Blizzak DM-V2 - 235/55 R19 at $650. Total => $2,150

    And

Audi Winter Wheel and Tire Package => 19x7 wheels with Michelin Latitude Alpin LA 2 AO @ 235/55 R19 => for $3,200

I live with heavy snow (3-6 feet / year) and occasional sheets of ice (including my sloped 600' driveway) and am very experienced in driving in these conditions.

I know the theoretical physics of the narrower the tire the better. Having a 7" OEM wheel versus the 8 1/2" BBS wheel will change the tire's section width by approximately 6/10" (per Tire Rack).

What I am hoping for is someone's real life experience with this 6/10" of extra width. According to the 1010 Tires calculator, this is equivalent to moving from tire size 235 to halfway between 245 and 255.

While I'd like every advantage I can get, paying an extra $800 - $1000 for the OEMs is a lot.

Does anyone have experience with switching from 235 to 245 or 255 in extreme conditions? Noticeable? Significant?
And does anyone have experience with the Audi Wheel and Tire package in extreme conditions?

I posted a similar thread a while back on Audiworld, but this is distilled to the essentials.

I see this thread is stale, but I'll try here rather than starting a new subject...

I am going to use a stock wheel set that I purchased from another member, the '18 SQ5 21"x 8.5" wheel. As far as I can find the Pirelli Scorpion winter may be the only dedicated winter tire available in 255-40-21. I'm not opposed to a narrower higher profile tire if it will improve winter performance, but the closest in a 245 is 245-40-21 and there aren't any winter tires I can find in that size. Does anyone know of another tire they would recommend in the 255-40-21 size? I have been running Blizzaks and Michelin X-Ice on my cars for the last 8-10 years with great results. I'm guessing the Scorpion doesn't have the same level of snow/ice performance because it's a winter performance tire rather than a "studless" snow tire? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Pirelli Scorpion Winter is a great tire, recently bought a used set with 7/32 (new is 11) and with last nights/this morning blizzard they still grip amazing on ice, hard packed snow, hard slush etc. There is Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice as well, not sure how they perform though.

Would 235/45/21 fit the new SQ? If not sticking with 255/40/21 is always an option, just the price for 21's winter tires is insane.

21-inch winter wheels and tires? LOL fashion over function huh?

Agreee on Pirelli Winter Scorpion!!!!!! Had these on previous Honda Minivan and they were fantastic on slush, ice and snow (8” or less). We travel around the Great Lakes area... no mountains and no super deep stuff.

My wife swapped the Honda for a Q7, and we ended up with a set of 20” Continental’s that are pretty good too, but last year was mild...... hence I don’t have feedback on “deeper” snow. They were pretty good on wet, slushy roads.

The prices are insane for the 21s Pirelli Scorpion Winters. Unfortunate that there's only one choice at that size. I knew I didn't want to run all-seasons year round on a wide 20x10.5 wheel so keeping the skinny 21x8.5 for winter mode made sense to me.

I was lucky enough to scoop up a 255/40 set from Walmart for $300/piece last fall, I see prices are now above $400...Tirerack seems to be best price as of typing this. I read all the reviews on Tirerack and saw 4-5 star ratings during my research. Also researched forums to see people from Canada/Colorado happy with deep snow performance. I figured if the Scorpions could withstand those winters, Michigan winters would be cake.

First time I've run winter tires + quattro on my Audis (always ran all-seasons year-round) and the SQ is like a snowmobile in the snow! Only knock on them is they are kinda loud at freeway speeds but my music drowns it out just fine. Sadly switching to winter mode in the next month or so. Gonna miss the BBS meats til spring.

Oh you can go smaller for winters! Tirerack has some old stock Scorpion Winters 255-50-19's for $126.19, free shipping. Get a set of wheels and mount these up! People should jump on these, great deal for this caliber winter performance tire.

Believe me I would have gone 19s or 20s for winters if the car didn't come with the stock 21s. I've got plenty of tread left on my winter set so no need to change...but that is a good deal for anyone looking!

I almost want to pick up a second set of winters when my current ones get worn too low, thats a killer price for anyone is the US...UPS will charge over $300USD to ship to Canada, the damn tires are only a little over $500....Canada HATES UPS. Ends up being $1050CDN shipped for me, not fair.

In the winter I run my OEM 20 X 9 rims with 255/45R20 105V XL Scorpion Winters. If I was going to buy a winter set-up i'd probably go with a 19" rim. There's a decent selection of winter tires for 20", not so much for 21"
