2006 A4 B7 Engine Swap from BPG to BWT

I've got an '06 A4 that had an oil pressure problem on the highway that ended up with a bang before I could pull over.

Dealer said "give us $7k to replace the head", and that turned into me buying a used engine (06 BPG) that I installed, and then found out it had a bad valve.

Recycling yard replaced the BPG engine with a BWT engine.

My question, can I use the BWT wiring harness with my BPG ECU (my understanding is that the imobilizer will not be happy with a different ECU)

    Thank you for any help.

So, the answer is yes, you can use the BWT harness/Engine with the BPG ECU.

Differences found between BWT and BPG engines:

Wiring harness for the BWT had an extra connection for the passenger side "Active" engine mount. BPG did not

Wiring harness for BWT had a shorter connection for the AC compressor. Needed to put an extender between the harness and the old AC compressor. It looks like the connection to the AC compressor is different on the newer cars.

Biggest Issue: Fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail (located between the alternator and the oil dip stick) changed between the two engines. With the BWT sensor and my BPG ECU, I kept getting P2293 faults/Check Engine Light accompanied by fuel cutoff during acceleration.

    I hope this helps someone.......

Was it a low oil pressure or just oil pressure with the red light and the oil pan ? Just wanna know cause my 2006 a4 2.0 giving off that "oil pressure" code. Just can't figure it out.

    Hi Eric,
I have an A4 that had a BPG to BWT swap from previous owner. I've been having the P2293 faults and fuel cutoff problems like you. I've recently had the cam follower/cam shaft/ high pressure fuel pump as well as low pressure fuel pump changed (due to other fault codes) but the P2293 still comes up occasionally under hard acceleration up hills. What did you do to correct this issue? Is there a BPG version of the fuel pressure sensor that should be installed? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

Just as a follow up to this for anyone who comes across it with the same issue. The high pressure fuel rail sensor was swapped out to a new oem sensor of the older version and since then have had no issues whatsoever. Its been a few months and a few thousand km, so i'm pretty certain its solved...

And did you have any problems with the immobilizer when using the BPG ECU with the new BWT engine?
