Proper Jacking Points

Hey,

I know this might sound redundant, but many older threads have bad links to pictures. I just got myself a floor jack and was wondering what points to jack the car up.

I realized how dangerous it was to raise the whole car one of four corners at a time due to the weight shift and heavy nose.

Where do I place the jack to raise the whole front end and the whole rear end?

Watching my car shift positions while jacking it is way too scary hahah.

i lift my rear from the rear diff housing right at the rear mounting plate thing. and I lift the front at the plate that ties the front cross member to the body. can only lift one side tho.

The proper place to jack the car is on the pinch weld along the bottom of the doors. Get a pinch weld jack pad.

But if you're lifting it at the pinch weld, how would you slip a jack stand underneath? For the back I use the diff crossmember, for the front I use the subframe where it goes under the oil pan.

I was looking for a jack point to raise the whole front end or rear instead of the door pinch welds since the weight is so unequal on a FWD the nose wants to shift forward once I start jacking up the rear. I will check out those points you guys talked about, thanks!

I jack on the pinch weld and put my jack stands on the flat points adjacent to the wheels. My stands don't have the notch to fit over the pinch welds. My car is too low/jack is too tall to fit far enough underneath to reach the subframe.

I use the pitch weld to lift 1 side of the front so I can use a 2nd floor jack from the front of the car at the spot where the subframe connects to the body. The rear I use the center of the rear crossmember right behind the rear diff. Putting all 4 jack stands on the pitch weld at each wheel, which is how the car sits in the garage between trips to the track so there is no weight on the tires.

Putting them on the subframe makes it a bit harder to get the transmission out. lol

That is exactly what I have to do. I don't have a low profile jack and the two jacks I have don't fit under a car even on just sport suspension. I use the factory jack to lift it enough to slip the real jack underneath. The two "cups" on the bottom of the subframe support brackets fit perfectly into the jack cup, so I use those to lift. Lifting the car evenly is easy enough with two jacks, though a second person helps to keep me from running back and forth from side to side. Once the car is up I use jack stands on the inside edge of the pinch welds.

how is that? thats how I always drop the trans when I need to. its not like you need to lower the sub frame to get the trans out, the whole trans is to the rear of the sub frame anyways

Makes it a tighter space to work on everything under the car to get the transmission out, but then I guess I just like the extra space to move around. I have put the jack stands under the sub frame that is under the engine before, but it just ended up denting it. Haven't had any issues with them under the pitch weld in the 50+ times I have had to pull my transmission. lol

The front of the bell housing is at the back edge of the front sub frame crossmember. I lay with my feet out the front of the car when I take the starter bolts, block/trans bolts and axle bolts out, so the jack stands under the sub frame would be in my way. Just pulled out my transmission this morning in about 45 minutes, longer then normal but then it was was 100+ degs.

I do the same...lay with my feet toward the front of the car and use 16mm wrench to get the 4 bolts on the bottom of block/trans that go in towards the back of the car...some ppl dont even use those bolts though

I run the front of my car up on race ramps, then jack up the rear, and put stands under the rear pinch welds.

Edit: these are he ramps I have. I remove the rear portion when I need the extra room.

but all jokes aside, im good with a jack, but those ramps are cool too, they would especially come in handy for those with a tight garage

My car is very low.. This is what I do: Jack car onto one ramp, do the same to the other side, then the same to the rear, then I add the jack stands.

I used to use this method. Now I just drive onto 2x4's and then onto the ramps. I'm not super slammed or anything though. I am low enough where I cant get my car onto a four point lift without jacking it up however

Not at all, gives extra security when tugging underneath the car. Most jacks don't go that high, so you have to lift it, set it down the. Jack it up again with a wood block to get it even higher.
