Radiator fan stays on won't turn off

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright guys so basically the fan turns on when I turn the car on right away and stays on. Even when I turn the car off it remains on for at least a couple minutes. This has never happened before and the engine isn't over heating or anything like that. I did a search and concluded that it must be a faulty fuse or module(I'm not too tech savvy with that stuff) so I need to known where and which part to buy to fix it. Thanks

Its funny you mention it because i wish these cars had a fan that would stay on constantly. They get soooooo hot, that i feel like just running no bumper haha

It could also just be the thermostatic fan switch on the radiator that has gone bad. It will trigger a "fans on" default.

So how do I figure out exactly what it is and how do I replace? Thanks for the quick responses

is this happening all the time or just sometimes? cuz i thought this was normal, so that the car slowly cools down the radiator fan runs for a minute or two after shutting down, when the engine is a bit hot or been running for awhile.

I agree! Think theyre normally located on the actual radiator?

It would never happen and now started happening every single time

There were some threads in 2011 or so where a few ppl had this issue. I'm sure you could drag them up to see the cause/solution.

Was gonna say it sounds like the fan control module located up inside the front bumper, but maybe it is the ECU.

Welcome to the ECU club. I am going through the same issue rite now. I had the STEALER diagnose the problem and they wanted $3000.00 to sell me a new ECU with OEM
programming.. Google ECU repair for a far better solution.

UPDATE: If anyone could shed some light or offer up some better solutions for me please let me know

Brought the car to Audi for diagnostics after being flashed to stock. They checked it out, replaced fan module under warranty but that didnt solve the problem. turns out theres an issue with the ECU so either i purchase a new one or i send it off to APR for repair. I'm currently in the process of working with Drive Auto Works and audi to send APR my ECU and they(drive auto) have been very helpful. The audi guy who also happens to be an APR salesman has also been very helpful and provided me with a loaner however im wondering what my best course of action is here. He says he will charge me an hour of labor (145$) for checking to make sure the fan module and everything is correctly connected to the repaired ECU. Is this really necessary? i would assume it is a simple task that drive auto could handle in a matter of minutes.

I will of course have to pay for shipping the ECU back and forth and also to have it repaired(300-400$), which is not even a guarantee that it can be fixed in which case I will have to purchase a new one. so im lookin at a decent amount of money because of some little fan issue

Also could this cause any issues if used long term? If possible I wanna put this off for a while. I don't see a big deal with the fan running all the time

It IS a relay within the ECU. Send the ECU to APR and they will fix it for you and re-install their tune. I had the same problem and APR took care of it. Good luck. Seems that this issue is starting to show up.

They're gonna take care of it but probably going to charge me a fortune for the repair. Thanks for the reply
