So I went to Ikon Wraps here in San Antonio and the shop is pretty wicked. They have a wrapped R8 at the place. This is the film I was talking about to wrap my brake calipers....1st picture without flash...

They are selling this particular vinyl as a high temp product. We shall see, they have a few customers that have had this process done and have had no issues, one of them being an R8 and another being an RS5 that are both on staff with the company.

The rear calipers on mine look a little bit different than the red ones with the RS cover so it might not attach. Really need to see how they attach and what the new calipers look like without that plate on there. It's pretty obvious that it is a separate piece at least.

For what it's worth, the side of my calipers measured 280F on the race track (with full race pads - Carbotech XP24) coming off hot into the hot lane (without having had time for the system to cool down).

I pick up my 2015 RS next week, I need to take the wheels off to fit spacers and gtechniq the wheels and calipers so I'll have a look at that rear caliper RS badge for you and take some pictures.

I saw 2015 Rs5 at the AWE BBQ yesterday with red brakes calipers although it looked good but IMO it doesn't deserve the switch for the cost right now. The rear has a plate with RS logo which I assume it can add to my rear calipers. I will investigate and keep everyone posted.

A 2015 RS5 that came with Toyo's Proxes on it? Is that standard in the States, I thought they came with Pirelli or Bridgestone as standard?

After a night getting my brakes changed and upgraded to Mtec black edition groove and dimpled discs with Textar pads ( give less brake dust apparently than oem ones and getting red stuff pads is surprisingly difficult costing approx £380 all in which was cheaper than oem parts that are not quite as good, according to research and don't rust which was my biggest bug bear).

Then I needed to tackle those nasty brake calipers, that looked like they had spent a day with Rolph Harris.

So I got hold of some Hammerite high gloss, high temp black paint (£6.50 from a local car parts supplier down town), then spent two nights de-rusting then painting the calipers and plates behind the brakes. I applied about five coats on each caliper and plate with an hour or two between each coat.

After leaving to dry overnight I then got on the task of a little detailing, to add that extra touch with the aid of Quattro decals I got off eBay for about £6 and then coating with high gloss/temp lacquer (£6) in a spray can.

This took another two nights giving about eight 'thin' coats and using the whole can, then overnight to harden so they can be jet washed.

Finally I just added wheels and I think it looks utterly awesome. I got huge satisfaction from doing it myself plus I wanted a subtle, classy and high quality finish ( as I'm abit of a perfectionist, some would say anal but tomatoe, tomato ).

Then It needed to see the sunshine. Job done.

One thing I would say is be patient. I rushed on the back left with not letting the gloss paint dry over night and then spraying with lacquer which caused the paint to bobble and another night taking off the decal and re painting them leaving over night to dry.

S-Line , Special Edition, 3.0l Quattro TDI, 3g MMI HDD, stage 1, de-badged, S5 mirrors, flat bottom wheel and VAGCOM'd.

Yea dont think thats a 2015. Havnt heard any in the states yet and that wheel option isnt even an option. Prob just did the brake caliper swap or painted them.

The RS5 10-spoke wheels I bought off from a forum member also came with TOYO Proxe tires. Not the best tire for RS5. I wish they are PSS or even my S5 stock Dunlop Maxx GT

I did the rear myself. It wasn't very hard. I did not remove the caliper. Only cleaned it and painted the visible areas. Bracket is easy to remove and paint.

Oh yeah sorry about that, I forgot to mention that my 2015 does not have that RS plate on the rear. I did not order the red calipers though,so maybe it is only included with those.

That wheel is the standard RS design 19" forged wheel option that has always been available in the US.

Well, then there goes my theory. The red calipers may be from a different distributor entirely then. Silly though because the rear caliper logo plate is black...would look much better on the black calipers.

Cheers guys, I'm well chuffed and now I've just bought some oem RS4's I'm itching to get them on and see more of my master pieces :D

Stingray they look bloody awesome in red, are you gonna put a decal on to finish them off? I didn't want to go for red as mine are just standard brakes as I'm not lucky enough to have an RS just yet.

I don't think I ever posted the final look of my wrapped calipers. I went to my local cars and coffee and it was an instant hit! People kept trying to take pictures with the flash on their phones to get the full effect. You be the judge.

And that's probably why they are rarely seen. They are "free" though and great take-offs for anyone planning to change wheels anyways and and want a winter set.

No they don't glow, they are reflective in the right lighting. You can see in this picture no lighting no flash just looks stock red

Hit it with a flash or the right lighting and they pop!

I'm not a fan of neon under glow as well, but these only reflect light at the right angles. Seeing it I person you would swear its paint and then hit it with a flash and your blown away.

It's pretty simple, you clean the caliper with an alcohol based solution and then cut the material to roughly the shape and size, hit it with a heat gun which activates the vinyl wrap properties. Then a skilled set of hands and a box of razor blades(the vinyl has a foil base and dulls razor blades FAST) and you cut to shape, heat, shape and then admire. This particular vinyl is heat rated and designed for high temperature applications. It literally looks like paint and unless you get your nose right on the caliper you can't even tell. Most people at cars and coffee were asking me where did I find that type of paint!
