Question Question - converting to dual sided S4 exhaust, need parts and hardware

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, sorry if this has been covered before. So I am about to buy someone's stock OEM exhaust from a B8 S4, and plan to fit that into my car. So I know the S4 has 2 downpipes, so what I'm planning on doing is getting a Y-pipe adapter and I'll fit that in to my single downpipe that way. I'm assuming the A4 and S4 exhausts are both 2.25" pipe diameter? So they should clamp and fit together fine? And I'll get a 2.25" Y-pipe adapter and that will work?

Also I know I will need the heatshield and hanger for the other (right) side of the exhaust. I could only found another thread about this and found the following parts I needed:

AUDI B8 A4 PASSENGER SIDE HEAT SHIELD FOR EXHAUST - Quantity 1
    8K0804172

CLIP FOR HEATSHIELD - Quantity 4
    N90796502

    HANGER ASSEMBLY - Quantity 1
    8K0253144M

So my question, is that all that I need? Just those 3 things? Do the heatshield clips (which are clamping washers) just clamp on themselves or do I need a separate bolt or screw or something for each clip? Also, is that the proper hanger assembly I need, do I need any other bolts or anything for that hanger? Basically just concerned if I need some more extra bolts or any other hardware, if someone has done this before please let me know, looking to order the parts asap so just want to be sure of what I need before buying all this stuff. Thanks!

EDIT: So I found the AWE PDF file with the extra parts, seems like it's just those 3 above, and also fastener nuts (N90348411). Just wondering, is that all I'll need, no other hangers or bolts or anything else anywhere?

When I did my Stasis setup which brought me to dual exit (one on each side), the only thing the kit came with was for the passenger side exit which is exactly what you have above, heatshield for passenger side, clip, hangar, as well as bolts to secure the hangar. Other than that everything else was the same. Not sure if it is different with the S4 exhaust, but from how I understand you are going about installing it then those are the only parts you should need to go from single side to dual.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but after a little research found that there's no point in doing this other than for looks.

yea i know its just for the looks, thats 90% of why i want it lol. im getting it for really cheap, only thing im really spending on is the quad valance and the headshield and stuff, but i'd need to buy that separately for any AWE or aftermarket exhaust I get anyway right? im sure those AWE ones dont come with all the stuff? but either way im getting this very very cheap which is the only reason im going through with it. i mainly just want the quad tip look, but if i dont get any hp or sound gains then im still ok with that for this price.

I was gonna say the same thing as doowop but since you are getting it for a good price then I guess it makes sense. A lot of s4 guys who take off their stock exhausts usually just try to give them away for free since the market is so flooded with them, most people have them sitting around.

You are correct that if you bought any other quad aftermarket exhaust you would have to buy the valance, but many a4 specific quad exhausts come with the heatshield and parts relating to that, its not like those parts are too expensive anyway, since the biggest chunk of change would be the valance. I doubt you will see any hp gains and maybe it will be a few db's louder, but nothing very noticeable if at all. Good luck with the install. Exhaust has always been a missing piece on your car imo, it will be perfect once thats all done.

^^ thanks, and yea i think the same thing, my car is all fully done but when u get to the back its that nasty ass stock valance haha, i dont even mind the single side dual tip too much as the s-line one still looks nice, but this one is just bad, wish the stock one was better, i've seen accords with nicer stock valances.

and yea im getting the exhaust for under $50 (same situation, guy has it sitting in storage and wanting to get rid of it), heatshield and stuff would be like $150 or so total, so still much much less than even any used full exhaust system i found. im ok with no hp or sound gains, but yea i was assuming id get at least just a bit louder since its dual sided now, which is cool.

does anyone know the proper diameter size for the exhaust? i'm guessing the A4 and S4 exhausts are the same diameter? is it 2.25? i'm looking to see which size y-pipe adapter i have to get. should i get the 2.25" all around, or the 2.5" single and 2.25" dual inlet one, or just the 2.5" all around (but 2.5 seems kinda big? i just measured the exhaust piping and it's 2.25, but not sure what the down pipe size is, probably the same i guess?

    +1

S4 OEM exhaust is not exactly impressive in sound or looks. Not worth all the work...

i got this one here and it fit for me. 2.5" dual to 2.25" single - http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/10758/10002/-1

i believe because the A4 pipes are 2.25 and the S4 is 2.5, so i had mine put on like that. or something like that. but basically that fit for me, joining the back part of the oem S4 exhaust onto mine. no mid-mufflers/resonators/downpipes/etc from the S4, only the rear 2 mufflers w/ tips and the piping of each side.
