    Bagged Q5 Build Thread-Project Storm

    Hello,

I was in the market for a new daily as my s5 wasn't practical and my all road had quickly turned into my show car. I needed a car to take to school, to haul stuff and to basically be the workhorse.

I attended Waterfest 20 when I saw Bagriders' bagged Q5 and fell in love. So I got home sunday night and started searching for Q5s. As it turned out my local dealer had just taken one in on trade a black on black 3.2 with nav(my only real requirement) so I traded in the s5 and picked up my new-to-me Q5 on thursday. The dealer threw in oem all-weather mats and an oem audi roof rack which I was stoked about.

Bags should arrive wednesday, and am currently searching for the proper wheels to complete my vision. I currently have a set of AG M510's in 20x10 et25 that I have test fitted but may need to go a bit wider to achieve the look I'm going for.

Anyways, enough of my rant. Will post more pictures during and after my air install that should be occurring Wednesday if all goes well. *fingers crossed* with the help of DuWerke

In the meantime, heres some pics on the day i picked it up, a S*** pic of the roof rack and a quick pic of the test fit the day I picked her up.

I'm currently working on getting another set of dampfhammers for it. The same brand I have on my allroad. Just need a temp set for now.

Thank you! Just poked through your build thread and wow! Awesome Q!

I'm really trying to stay away from overly modding this car because it's supposed to be the daily/abused car. And the allroad is the show vehicle. A lot going on to the allroad over the winter. As long as the q doesn't take my money!

Really like the tail upgrade, and the rsq5 grille. Did you source those both from euro price? I really think I want to get a flat bottom wheel as well.

Threw my buddies AG's on the car for a little while, while he tears up Vegas!

They're 20x10 et 25 but with stretched tires it doesn't fill the wheel well as well as I'd like. These were more for seeing fitment and sizes. I am working with dampfhammer now to get a set going. Should be insane!

I also had the front windows tinted to match the rears, as well as 35% on the windshield. Haven't had any problems yet *knocks on wood*

Can anybody tell me what the price is for a caractre(sp?) bumper and trunk spoiler? I've been trying to do some digging and haven't been able to find anything on where to buy. Just threads of people who have it.

Also, does anyone have the OEM off-road package fender overlays? The grey plastic over-fenders similar to the allroads. Depending on the route I go with the car I may try to have it similar to the allroad.

Thanks! That was the plan for our Q5. My S4 was suppose do be the show car but the wife got the mod bug. The tail lights were through Europrice and the grill was through a group buy here on the forum a while back. I think it was from LLTek. Flat bottom wheel is awesome but it took me a while to pick the one i wanted based on looks and feel. The RS6 wheel felt the best to me.

What is the purpose of "bagging" a Q5? I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think it makes the Q5 look like an A3. Is there a reason to do this other than trying to achieve that look? Do you gain or lose functionality by doing this? Just curious...

you can easily adjust ride height on the fly. If you're going off road you can go back to stock height, if you showing it you can drop to the ground. with coils you have to hand crank each coil individually and it takes time to make sure it's level. Not to mention the ride quality is decent compared to stock.

Got it. Thanks. I didn't realize you could still keep it at stock height.

Yep! It offers a full range of height. I find the adjustability helpful when I'm loading a roof box carrier or anything on to my roof rack. It makes it much easier as the roof line is now around shoulder height. Not that I bagged the car solely for that purpose. But it certainly is a benefit.

I can definitely see that benefit. I have stock air suspension on my Cayenne and it has multiple height settings, including a "loading level", although you can't drive the vehicle on that setting. The reason I asked is that I see lots of people on this forum who lower their cars a significant amount - to the point where they don't look like they can be driven. I didn't know if they were lowered like this just to be shown, or if people were actually driving them that low. I live in the mountains, with lots of steep angle driveways, rough roads, etc. A low car isn't very practical here so I just don't see them. There are several roads and driveways that I simply can't use when I drive my 911.

Actually its surprising how low they can actually be driven. on my A4 I had the coils set low enough to where the tires were tucked under the fender. The lower you go the less comfortable the ride quality but more BA'ness in asthetics

I suppose it has tradeoffs just like any mod. I was actually thinking of going the opposite direction with the Cayenne now that I have the SQ5 in the garage. I was thinking of putting smaller diameter wheels (18") on it with big off-road tires. I may put a snorkel and a roof rack with lights on it, like one of the Transsyberia Cayennes. I would probably add rock rails too. I would gain lots of usability off road, but certainly sacrifice highway ride quality.

That would be awesome! I've never seen an off road cayenne. And that would certainly be a bad ass car! I demand pictures if you do!

I'd stay away from bag over applications. Stick with one piece units like airlift, airrex, etc. Accuair management is good but they sell UAS bag systems, not their own (to the best of my knowledge).

Why do you say that? I've heard the opposite from most people. I went with airlift but heard the b8 sport kit is the end all...
