What is the best way to remove glue residue from headliner without damaging the board?

Found all of these below in various forums(not audi), not sure whether these will damage the headboards in our cars.

3M adhesive remover, Denatured alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Goo gone, Sandpapaer, Laquer thinner, General Purpose adhesive cleaner

This is how the headliner looks after cleaning the nasty orange foam..

I've heard that it's not good to use solvents/chemicals because they leave residue which prevents good adhesion when you go to glue on the new fabric.

I used steel wire wheels operated via a rotary tool, in my case a dremel, with a steady and careful hand to completely get rid of the orange. It takes a while, but it can be done. You might want to wear a dust mask or something (respirator maybe?), and safety glasses, not only to stay safe from the glue dust, but to protect your eyes from the little steel wires that will occasionally shoot out from the wire wheel bit.

Just curious, how are you applying the new fabric, and what fabric will you use?

I also read this in some forum, somebody was suggesting using a damp cloth with just water. Not sure water can damage the board though.

I actually used wire brush to remove the orange foam, but it was very sticky. Will try your method..

I am just gonna do it by myself, i believe in my skills even though I haven't done this in the past.

I am getting new OE replacement fabric of the same color and foam back cloth material from headliner express. Their price is bit high, but they have a great reputation in BMW forums and their fabric exactly matches the texture and color of the current headliner. Their kit comes with adhesives which I probably use to glue the new fabric or I may use 3M foam fast 74 orange glue which I already have with me..

Today I was looking at few guides posted on websites owned by headliner repair shops and most of them just tells to remove the old foam using a brush until it is clean.

If that's the case, then my headliner already looks clean enough for the new glue..have been successful in brushing off the orange foamy stuff still have a sticky residue left though..

Ya, I heard the 3M Foam 74 is best even though it doesn't really say on the can that it is made for headliners..
