    heat wrap intercooler piping?

heat guys i was thinking of going to the local autozone and picking up some heat wrap for my intercooler piping on the turbo side of my car. Since i dont have a heat shield on my turbo its getting really hot under my hood and to prevent heat soak (and to not pay high dollar for a good turbo heat shield) i was hoping this might ease some of my worries. Has anyone done this, is it worth it, will it end up looking like crap? If this is a bad idea please give me feed back on what i can do to help limit the heat.

any recommendations on a heat shield for a K04?

Im not sure what you got, but you will want the gold wrap that keeps the heat out. If you got the regular exhaust heat wrap it will just keep the hot air in the piping and I dont see that helping keep the engine bay temps down. If you got the gold reflective wrap that stuff is designed to reflect the heat away from the piping so to speak. An example of it is: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dei-010397

edit: sorry, I just realized you said from the turbo to the intercooler, not the other way around. I can't comment on which wrap you would want for that.

no problem. I haven't used either but plan on wrapping my y pipe and some other areas in the gold reflective wrap when the time comes for another build.

The heat is from the exhaust manifold and cat-converter.

Get the exhaust manifold Jet-Hot ceramic-coated and a 034 HFC, and wrap the HFC for significant reduction of under hood heat from those items!

If you're wanting to reduce engine bay temps I suggest wrapping the cat/testpipe rather than the intercooler piping. I wrapped my testpipe with some inexpensive wrap from Summit in an attemp to reduce my engine bay temps, and it was effective according to the 'how fast do I burn my hand' test.
