    Coil Pack for B8 A4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I see people recommend R8 coil pack for our cars. They are two completely different cars. How could this be possible?

I found the red cap coil pack on ECS Tuning. I dont see anywhere mentioned about R8 in the description. Am I looking at the right coil pack?

It's just a revised (newer) version. Um, many cars share similar things amongst themselves..

    Cheaper on Europaparts.com, http://www.europaparts.com/ignition-...6e905115e.html

Thanks for the link. ECS is selling them as a set (4 coils) + free shipping. So they are about the same price.

I would change all four of them at once to save the hassle.

Do people normally change the spark plugs too while replacing the coils?

I also changed the spark plugs when I swapped out the coil packs.

Are these the same red cap coils as the ECS and Europeparts?

Any after market spark plugs available?

Yeah, same part #. Genuine Audi Parts is a good site for OEM parts in my experience. I ordered the below plugs from Amazon based on another threads recommendation. Amazon will say they don't fit the car but they do...

you will want either the Revision E or Revision F coils for our cars, they are the same but the E is red. and the E has the same part # as the R8 one, the R8 one is just titled differently but same product, and i think the R8 titled one is actually a bit more expensive on ecs, not sure, but yeah just get the Revision E if you want the red, or the F.

    Thanks.

I remember NGK were the most popular brand for spark plugs in 90s. I guess it is the gold standard today as well.

Did you provide your VIN number when you order the coil from Genuineaudiparts? It says they recommend buyer to enter their VIN number at the bottom of webpage.

Yes, I'd replace spark plugs as well. NGK platinum plugs are a solid choice.

R8 coils have like 40-50% more ohms. Stock is 3.5 and R8 is like 5.3, much better spark.

Is it a pain to replace the coil and plugs yourself? What tools do you need for that job?

I didn't provide VIN. As far as install goes, I followed the below DIY. Took me about 20-25min total. Very easy.

coil packs are easy to replace, how many miles do you currently have no your vehicle? like mentioned before, you might want to do the plugs at the same time, NGK recommended. Where in NYC are you? i might be able to give you a hand.

Question for those running R8 coil packs.
Are you running a bigger spark plug gap? What gap is everyone running?

    Thanks

What's up with this plug gap thing? I've never need to adjust any spark plugs gas for my previous cars. Is this mandatory for this car?

When you buy the plugs for the car they come pre-gapped. so you do not need to do anything. If you are running with a APR tune, they recommend different plugs that have a different gap. Either way, they come gapped from factory so there is no reason to adjust the gap.

Thanks for clarifying. This gap thing doesn't apply to my car then. My car is GIAC tuned. So people should buy recommended plugs for their tuned cars. Why bother play with the gap?

Strength in the spark, thats all. I am not to familiar with GIAC tunes, i do not know if they recommend certain plugs over factory NGKs.

    Hi Guys,

Sorry for digging out a such old thread. I want to buy coil pack, spark plugs and engine air filter for my 2010 A4 with 28k miles. I have never done any maintenance on the car except for changed out the brake light bulb.

Where can I find an online store that sells all three items? How much do you guys pay for the red coil pack (4 coils)?

For plugs and filter, I would use Amazon. I purchased my spark plugs for $36, whereas they were listed for something like $56 on ECS. I would recommend the AFE dry filter.

europaparts.com and ecstuning.com are great sites, europa is in NJ too you can even go pick it up or at least get shipping to you in NYC. but you'll find it all on both of those, see which works out better for you with price + shipping, etc.

Well shipping for my filter AND plugs combined was like $4, so still worth it. But fuck me for trying to help, right?

The filter is the right one.

The plugs are the right model, just double cross reference the part number with ECS or Europa to make sure you have the right heat range. I think OEM is heat range 7, but can't recall off the top of my head. Stock gap is .028, but some tuned guys one range colder and run .030-.032 gap and seem to be ok. You should ask GIAC.

Just need a torx bit with an extension socket for the filter replacement. Pretty straightforward, but I would recommend unscrewing the intake elbow (the screws, not the band clamp) from the airbox to get to one of the screws.

Yes, I would ask GIAC if they recommend you run a larger gap with their tune. I know a lot of APR cars on AZ do.

I'm on APR stage 2 and last week just replaced my BKR8xx gapped at .028 with BKR7xx gapped at .022. I was chasing down a misfire that would only happen at half throttle when running 91, but behaved perfectly on e85. I've only filled up with 91 once since the change but it seems to have corrected the issue.

I do not want to encounter any technical issues with my car because my car is super clean and problem free right now. So I guess I would go with the stock plug gap spec. Where do I find the plug gap spec on this item on Amazon?
