    Question Audi Q7 S-Line 3.0T & MPG...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
All this talk about TDI MPG on the Q7 made me very curious about real world MPG in my own Q7. It is not a TDI it is a 3.0T with the bumped up HP from the S-Line package (along with 21" wheels). I filled up the car with the usual Shell93 V-Power gasoline and decided not to refill until the yellow gas light came on... Tires are set for 49psi all around. Occupants varied from Driver alone to two additional Passengers. Temperature has fluctuated from low 80's to low 90's. I made it to quarter tank with 300 miles and still no light. This is mixed driving of 60/40 Hwy/Cty.

I am going to run this down to the point where it states "0 Miles" remaining on the MFD. I am curious how many miles I can stretch out of a typical tank of gas on this.

What are others experiencing on theirs? TDI please chime in as well. Please include driving style and any other factors that may effect mileage.

I've only filled mine up twice (once fully and once to top off) since purchase (I travel so don't get to enjoy her too much) but I'm tracking mileage and gallons added in an app so I'll be able to report more by my next fill up this weekend.

At what speeds are you traveling to get 30+? At 78 I average 25.5mpg in a 2014 TDI. I average 23.5 in city driving. At 70 the average is just over 30mpg.

With regular city/highway driving, my wife gets over 500 miles on one tank of diesel. Round trip commute to work for her is about 55 miles M-F. She is the one that does wait until the last minute to get fuel, but I have got her in the habit of writing down her mileage and gallons pumped. I plug those numbers into the track on fueleconomy.gov every month or so. Currently she is averaging 22.75mpgs combined.

The lest leg of City driving & Traffic ate up the remainder of the fuel fairly quickly... I suspect there were more miles to go after the "0" reading but I recorded once the MFD displayed "0".

generally between 55 and 70 mph. We don't have many roads where the posted limit is higher than 65.

Wow...glad to see this! I've been thinking of moving over to the Q7 from my 5.2 V10 S6, which averages about 14 MPG with a 40/60 Hwy/City Split, primarily in S mode, for better mileage in case I move into a longer commute (looking at a job change). I've driven the TDI and liked it, but considered the 3.0T S-line as an alternative. Now I'm thinking I'd better stick with the TDI: better MPG and (hopefully) fewer long-term maintenance issues (no carbon build-up).

    ***** UPDATE *****

Recently went on a 470 mile road trip with various stops.

Averaged 17.1 MPG. Refilled once at about half a tank (~240 miles). Shell 93 V-Power. 49 PSI all around. Temperature ranged from 74 - 82 degrees.

(Calculator estimated 460 to a complete tank I felt it was a bit optimistic and filled up in the middle.)

Updated mileage. 2014 S-Line Plus. Last two trips were mostly city driving.

I knew mileage would be bad, but I didn't think it would be this bad.

First, is that app Road Trip? I've been meaning to download that one. Second, what kind of city driver are you? I fear you're more like me and prefer to get off the line quickly. I'm in the market to replace my aging A6 and have been looking at 2012-2013 Q7 Prestige S-Line vs same model years TDI. I'm not quite sure I want to get into all the DPF headaches but I'm fairly certain that the petrol version will leave me with MPG such as you displayed.

After a week in the new 2015 3.0T, I am not impressed with the city mileage. It has been 13-14mpg. So far, we only put 500 miles on it. We came from a 2008 3.6 which did 16-17 average city and 19 on long road trips going 75-78mph. I hope that it settles in a little higher than the 3.6, but at this point I would be happy if it was just the same. Of course gas is cheap now so maybe it does not matter.

you should definitely see better mpg than the 3.6L... the 3.6 was underpowered overworked and had 1mpg better fuel economy than the 4.2L.
city mpg on the 3.0t is very similar to the TDI but the very clear difference is in highway mpg... the tdi blows it away. if you want fuel economy alone that's for you.

Yeah, had a V8 Touareg before the 3.6 and that was worse. I averaged 13mpg over 3 years. i am going to give the 3.0T a chance to break in and then track based on my wife's normal driving which was at around 17 on the 3.6.

My 3.0T S4 used to get 27mpg highway on my trips to Tampa from Orlando, but dropped to about 24 when I did APR Stage II (tune+ pulley). I would really love to have that power in the Q7, but dread the TD1 flag and risking the powertrain warranty. They definitely have it dumbed down at 280hp (non S-Line). My S4 started at 333hp like the S-Line. It is now at about 400hp to the wheels with some other mods on top of APR (per Dynojet). I wonder how quick the Q7 would be. A buddy did APR Stage II on a Q5 3.0T and it was quick.

^pretty damn good and fortunate for you that diesel is cheaper... around my area there currently is a .50/g disparity between the two and diesel always costs more.

two factors swayed me from tdi... the cost difference in fuel along with the premium for the vehicle itself and the lack of aftermarket support for the tdi.
3.0t has a great deal of potential and ease of extracting power.
i purchased a milltek and giac tune and it feels as quick as my RRS-SC.

Exact logic for me as well. Additionally wife drives way more city miles than highway miles so when I did the commute calcs. The petrol came out less expensive to run fuel wise than the diesel and the price disparity was heavy that week as well. Was seeing about a 5-6K USD vehicle cost diff that I wasn't going to make up in fuel with the diesel. Just too much more expensive to make since. Needed way more mpg out of the diesel city to make sense.

It's amazing in the world we live in... my situation is almost the exact opposite. My wife commutes 55 miles round trip, five-six days a week, all highway and she is not into modifications on her vehicles so it made perfect sense for us to pick the TDI. In the city, it gets just as much as my A6 3.0T, but it rules the highway, especially for its size. The diesel and premium fuel prices here very comparative and varies weekly; currently diesel is cheaper by about $0.10.

Just picked up a 2015 S-Line Q7 for the wife & know that the MPG's will B "slightly" less than what we were getting on the 08 Merc. diesel but the performance & interior upgrades are worth it. However, always looking for a way to improve the MPG's so now that you've had the Miltek exhaust on for a while what have your actual gains amounted too? Worth the cost & install? Have you calculated the time required time to "payback" w/increasing MPG vs stock MPG & what type of time frame that will take ? Significant performance boost w/ the GIAC ? What made you choose GIAC vs APR? Warranty worries? FWIW, the other fun vehicle is a S5 Cab. w/the same motor as the Q7.
