A4 and Allroad OEM Suspension Reference

I've done a bit of reading on Audi suspensions and am sharing some general info here and also a more specific comparison of 2012 A4 and 2013 A4 Allroad suspensions.

----- General Info - All Audi Suspensions ------

Audi uses different model codes for their several suspension lines:
1BA = Standard suspension/shock absorption (normal A4)
1BE = Sports suspension/shock absorption (sport suspension A4 including USA S-line)
1BD = Suspension/shock absorption for special sports design (for S4,5 etc.)
1BV = Sports suspension/shock absorption (for RS cars by Quattro GmbH and European S-line)
1BL = Suspension/shock absorption - closed-loop (This is ADS)
1BP = Suspension/shock absorption for special rough-road design (used on B8 Allroad)
1BR = Comfort rough-road suspension

To find the right suspension parts you need both the 'model code' above and the weight codes both front and rear.

Audi has up to a dozen different weight codes per suspension line.
For example, on stock suspension, a 3.2 A4 will have a different front weight code than a 2.0T A4.
Likewise an Avant will have a different rear weight code than a sedan all else being equal.

Audi takes your total vehicle weight into consideration so small changes like options (Navigation, B&O stereo...) can bump you up to the next weight category.

Weight categories are shown by a code on the options sticker for each car.
(Options sticker is on the inside cover of your "Warranty & Maintenance" book in your owners manual, and/or in the spare wheel well)

0Y* is the rear weight code
0J* is the front weight code
(The * will be a letter not a number)

Usually there are different springs for each weight codes (some are shared between model lines so for example 1BE, 1BL, 1BD may share).
For each suspension line there are 1-3 different shock absorbers which each fit multiple weight codes.

The springs have paint codes on them which indicate the part# and weight code.
The shock absorbers have the full part number on a sticker on the shock body.

The hard part is decoding what the weight codes mean.
It seems that from B6 platform onward, the same weight code always corresponds to the same weight class (ie, comparing 1BE to 1BA -- unverified!)

The part numbers change after some build dates listed in the parts catalog.
The format "01.01.2000>>" means "after Jan 1 2000"
The format ">> - 01.01.2000" means "before Jan 1 2000"

In the USA Market, S-line is a package option for B8 A4 Prestige cars. Is the terminology different in Europe?
USA S-line package on the B8 A4 adds the "sport suspension" which is the same suspension that is offered with the "sport package" on Prem+ models, and is -20mm.

Over here in Europe if you order the full S-line package you get the 1BV suspension, so I guess there is a small difference as to witch package comes with witch trim level. We don't have Prestige, Premium, etc. just different packages. For example, if you order the sports package you get cloth upholstered sport seats, a 3-spoke steering wheel and the 1BE suspension.

1BD should also be just -20mm.

Finally found this thread - remembered it from awhile ago, from the Audi springs color coding craziness.

I have an '09 3.2L P+ sedan - was with standard suspension 1BA rear weight code OYK front weight code OJJ, . I'm original owner since 7/09.
I had KW V1 coil overs installed about 7/10 - never been happy with the harsh ride and would like to convert my suspension to 1BE (N/A S-Line Sport), 1BD (S4) or 1BV (Euro S-Line).
IIRC difference between N/A S-Line and Euro S-Line is 20mm v. 30mm drop from standard - I'd prefer 30mm drop - unsure if S4 springs/shocks would work.
BTW I have 19" rims - from OEM 17" rims.

Can you possibly provide the spring and shock P/Ns and color codes for these possible setups?
Any input from other members would be appreciated.

Look up your weight code in the lists above, you can easily find part# for 1BE with the correct weight codes there.

2) See what experiences anyone has had going with lower weight ratings? I have a '12 Avant Prestige with OJF and OYK setup and I'm wondering if going down the -2/front and -1/rear as others have suggested may drop is a small amount, say 5mm.
