Question Top Must-Have Mod for New B8 A4 Owner

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all.
Im sure you've seen similar posts, but I'm new to the forum as well as owning an Audi.

IN YOUR OPINION, what is the first must have modification for a B8 A4? What was your first mod?
I'm not in the mood to go drop 2grand after buying the car, but who knows .

First off welcome and congrats on the new Audi. I will be nice since you are new, but this thread may be a good start for you to look at: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...To-Boost-Power

It also depends on if you are looking for cosmetic mods, or power mods (I started cosmetic, rs4 grille, new rims and a drop, then exhaust and so on) . Also, good luck on not spending 2k on mods, once the bug bites its hard to shake off

I debadged the second night after I drove it home. Then bought Weathertech floor mats and a trunk liner. Then tint. That is where I lost control and ordered a turbo back exhaust, Ecode intercooler, lowering springs, seat drawers, stasis rear swaybar, rs4 grill, P3 guage, Vagcom cable, spacers, and some other things in a couple of nights. I have only had my '14 for a month!.....smh....when my wife finds out I got all this shit, she is going to kill me!

Welcome. If you don't want to spend 2k on mods, my advice would be to stay away from these forums Seriously you will become obsessed about stuff you never even noticed before (wheel gap, orange side markers, etc.)

I say go for a tune while APR and Revo have their summer sale. Stage 1 completely changes how the car feels.

Top Must-Have Mod for New B8 A4 Owner

    My new 2014 A4.
All stock everything, not into modifying cars so I barely understand 90% of the things said on here, lol.
Anyways, I have the 17" 10 spoke stock rims and I feel the car would look so much better with bigger rims, maybe black ones.
Would like to hear what in your opinion is the brand or kind of rims I should be looking at also the best rim size for a balance between comfort and looks, my car is Lava grey with pearl effect.

I also need to know what you guys mean when you say debadging.

    Thanks. :)

Right above this is the Official B8 Wheel thread. Look through that and you can get many ideas of what you may like. Debadging is removing all the badges from the rear of your vehicle to give it a cleaner look.

Thanks! I think I might debadge, is it easily done by anyone? or is there a possibility that a noob could ruin my paint with scratches and shit?

Vag com, debadged, springs and spacers. If you're getting new wheels soon, hold off on the spacers till then

Vag com is a cable made by Ross Tech that lets you code your car, such as needle sweep, interior lighting, video in motion etc. You can find a bunch of codes here http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagCom.html but the cable itself costs over $300 unless someone local can help you code some stuff.

Debadging, just use a heat gun or hairdryer and run it over the badge for like 30 seconds and use dental floss to pry it off. Use some residue remover or wd40 on a microfiber to wipe off whatever is left behind. Takes maybe 5 mins tops to do.

You can use some GooGone to remove any extra residue. It won't harm the paint.

    Awesome, thanks!

    Another question :$
I have the facelifted A4 2014, do you refer to that as B8 or B8.5 or what exactly?

When you use the dental floss, you can also use fishing line. You are going to tuck it behind the badges and use a sawing motion (up and down) to cut through the double sided tape. If you live in a hot climate you may be able to just pull them off on a hot day being your car is new. That is what I did. Most people leave the Audi rings on though.

Tinting and wheels are the two biggest things you can do to change the look of any vehicle.

This is also very true, everyone here is both very helpful and a bad influence leading to a depleted bank account. Lol.

Thanks guys for all your advice. It seems like everyone here agrees that the top 2 things a new owner can do is the debadge and tint.
Luckily I have the heat gun and fishing wire here. Is adhesive remover something I can pickup from Home Depot, or will I need to find a car place?

I think I might try the debadge later. Pics in due time.

I was also too looking at the RS4 grill, but wasn't in the mood to take off the front bumper on my new ride (I also don't have much body work experience). Did you have a shop do it? If so, how much did they charge you just for labor.

Oh I've already read through that thoroughly. It's around step 7 when I start to feel uneasy.
Also, I've heard stories of people both jacking their car or just leaving it on the ground. Which did you do?

Dado, my wheels would look great with that color. Look up GF 06 machined silver. Or of you want they come in black too.

And guys I think some of is are forgetting the best mod, tune2air!! That was my first thing. I wanted Bluetooth so bad for music.

Second was a roof rack for my bike and then after that Ecodes. Then I just went crazy lol

For wheels larger than my stock 17", should I bring my car to a shop to have the speedo checked?
I was also a step ahead of you on the Bluetooth. I just ordered a 30pin Bluetooth adapter, and am heading to BestBuy today to pick it up along with some other goodies !

For the wheels, if you go 18 or 19 you pick a tire so the tire/wheel combination will have roughly the same rolling diameter as the 17 wheel/tire combo. The speedo shouldn't be off much.

Does the Bluetooth adapter do all the stuff tune2air does? Pretty much an oem look when streaming music and what not? With Tune2air, your able to control the music using the radio buttons and not having to touch your cell phone at all. It was the best 89$ I spent in my opinion!

I didn't get Tune2Air only because I use Spotify and not iTunes. In order to change songs, playlists, etc., I can't use the radio buttons (I have to do it all on my phone ). I just went with a cheaper equivalent.

You can buy automotive bug and tar remover, which will do the job without hurting the paint, at places like Autozone.

Which one did you go with? I wouldn't be using the streaming for iTunes either, but other services such as pandora, and hypem. Also, I always thought the b8.5's had built in bluetooth audio streaming from factory, at least my facelift sq5 does, as well as other b8.5 s4's I have been in.

For those with the Tune2Air, Are you still able to connect to the cars bluetooth for the phone while also being connected to the tune2air for music streaming? I have been meaning to pick one of these up for a while but always wondered about this..

I went with the Aluratek 30-Pin Bluetooth Audi Receiver. It was on the cheap side and can be used for a whole host of devises, so, if it doesn't work in the car, I can still use it elsewhere.
