anyone have sucess with stock speakers/amps and a aftermarket X2 din unit?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know some units will not work well with the stock speakers or amps.

    This leaves me 2 options .. 1... to find a RNS-E
2... to replace all stock speakers and bypass amp and buy a generic X2 din unit.

OR.. if there is a X2 din unit that does work well with stock speakers/amps... just install that.

i think that for any aftermarket Double Din radio, you need to by-pass the stock amplifier, I just did that in my B7 & its sound better with the DD radio amp than the one in the car

Yes, Amp bypass had to be done in my B4s as well.

I have also read problems with the stock speakers relating to the voltage output from the new head unit.

Do you mean watts? What you need to look is for ohms or the resistance of the speaker. 4 ohms is the norm in car audio

Not that hard, but time consuming, need to run some speaker wires to the back of the car (this is were the stock amp is) + rcas + power wire + remote wire if gonna install an amp

    understood, you are correct.

Are the stock B6 speakers 4Ohm's ?? I know 99% of car audio is, however I read something about the stock B6 speakers being "weird" I can not find the source right now.

Non-Bose are 4ohm, Bose are 2ohm. Both will work fine powered from an aftermarket head unit or aftermarket amp.

just to be sure I have my head around this...

bypassing the amps for the rear speakers.... no problem, I am sure I can figure that out.

How would I encorporate the stock rear sub woofer with the new head unit?

I have done a bit of Car audio in my day, but it has been a while.

    Thanks all.

i tried upgrading the headunit with a pioneer 2300-dvd while leaving the stock speakers and amp, tried bypassing the amp too. sounded like absolute shit.
ended up stripping the ENTIRE stock system out, wires and all, and rewired it all from the ground up with Polk componit speakers, x-overs, rockford 4 channel amp, and a kenwood Amp/Sub combo box. sounds really nice now!

The easiest solution is to keep the stock amp, but instead of feeding it from the head unit's line-level output, use the HU's speaker-level outputs, fed thru a line-level adapter (aka, a hi->low adapter).

2 Ohm speakers are not going to play well with an Aftermarket head unit, not unless you are incorporating the factory amp. But this is irrelevant since the OP is non bose. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I should have clarified: as long as the HU/amp is rated as stable at 2ohms, then you're fine to power Bose speakers directly

If you are going with an aftermarket headunit then you should replace your speakers with 4 ohm speakers. If you plan to run your new headunit with the 2 ohm Bose speakers then you run the risk of blowing your HU or overheating it.

if one has the Bose setup, there's no good reason to use the head unit's amplified output over the stock Bose amp. Just feed the Bose amp the line-level outputs and it's all good.

the non-Bose setup is the tricky one, since the stock HU powers the front/center speakers, and a dinky little amp (which is picky about the signal its fed) powers the rears and sub.

    Yeah I agree completely.

There is a guy or company that makes a line booster for the non bose system for about $100.
