RS7 Max Horsepower and Torque Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone know the estimated max HP the engine can handle as well as the transmission. Also, what amount of torque can the transmission can handle.

    Thanks

    Thanks, Packy.

I have An APR tune and they rate the horse power at 748.

According to ZF 738 lb. Ft. of torque on their beefiest version of the 8 speed.

So with APR tune I have exceeded the max torque of the trans. Hopefully, ZF underrated the trans max numbers.

I guess its no longer a prototype. Damn. Got 0-60 and 1/4 mile to share.

I really don't think they'll be able to go much higher without changing internals. Time will tell.

Wow, that's impressive and apparently maxed out.

Is ths the stage 1 tune on 100 octane, or did you have other things done?

Very consistent and impressive, especially in the late June heat and humidity of Fayetteville.

I would love to see this too but can't imagine anyone turning up the power so far as to exceed the ratings of most of the support systems.

Not on a new buck and a quarter car under warranty

Hope someone proves me wrong though

where are you going to fit that?

spraying the car would also be very hard to tune for, I still think some one should run a fogger system for the intercooler.

What would happen if you used 108, 110 or higher octane race fuel with the APR stage 1 100 octane program? In general, is there any benefit or risk associated with using higher octane than the program calls for?

If you're not octane-limited (i.e. no reduction of timing in order to prevent knock), then higher octane does no good whatsoever. In fact, it can cause a reduction in power, as the flame front will propagate more slowly (octane is a measure of how reluctant the fuel is to burn).

Thanks, DeerHunter. That's surprising to me, because APR lists stock HP variances between 91 and 93 octane fuel, with 93 octane producing greater power despite the ECU program remaining constant. Also, I thought higher octane led to faster, more thorough combustion. I'm showing my ignorance.

I think it would leave little pieces on the track. Thats alot of HP for stock parts. Maybe a 50 shot, but no more.

Higher octane with NO other changes and assuming the engine is properly tuned for the lower octane, will lower milage and power slightly. Higher octane only allows for higher tune or boost.

My understanding is that APR includes unique maps for 91, 93 and 100 octane fuel, in a single tune. I'm sure the spark advance and boost levels (amongst other parameters) are different for each of them, which is why hp and torque improve with octane. As Packy notes, if the tune is constant and the engine is optimized for lower octane, increasing octane will actually have a negative effect.

Its a whole new ballgame when you get into the internals. I'd be leary of the drivetrain as well as the rods and pistons.

    stupid question coming

so, if i put race fuel in my stock rs7, it will not make it any better, rather chances are it will lower mpg and performance?

Higher octane raises the combustion temperature point of the air fuel mix

The game is increasing the timing and boost as much as possible short of detonation (fuel ignition before the fuel is in the cylinder)

More octane means you can push the boost and timing all else equal

runnning higher octane without tuning for it can reduce power and milage. Your computer may make a little adjustment, but overall you are wasting money on a stock engine.

I'm glad so many people are tuning the car now. I want to do it but I fear the lack of warranty. It will give me some time to see the long term reliability results... OR I may just tune it. Stupid self control...

I'm under the "wife control" plan. She won't let me do anything until warantee is up. She says it will reinvigorate me with the car by time I've had it that long.

I'm reinvigorating myself now by selling my S4 in August and driving a $1,500 Chrysler Sebring until the RS7 comes in mid-November. It's fu*ken working, let me tell you lol

You may take your wife's A3 out and leave a Sebring for her to drive once in a while with the cost of the night on a couch LOL.
