New wheel question- 20x8.5 for use with the factory 265/35/20 tires? Recommended ET?

I know my factory rims are 20x9" but looking at some of the Avant Garde rims and they come in 20x8.5 and 20x10. I don't care much for the stretched look. Also want to get the wheels as close to the fender or at a minimum the same distance as the OEMs.

Look up the specs on your tire at Tire Rack. They list a minimum and maximum recommended width for a particular size.

I wouldn't put 265 tires on an 8.5" wheel. Yes you can get it to fit, but doing so is of no benefit. You should really stay with a 9" or 9.5" wide wheel. Look for another wheel choice. On the other hand, 10" gives a bit of a stretch, but it isn't that bad. My M3 has 265s as stock size on 10" wheels. Alternatively, you can go to a 10" wheel and run 275/35/20 tires with no issue. I am assuming you have a 7 series car, because 6 series come with 255 tires as stock.

You are correct VVG... I think I will go with 10" new rims for my current (and future summer tires) , and use my OEM's for winter duty since they are a bit narrower and I know I can get tires easy for them.
