    1.8T Fueling diagram

    Hey guys.
As most of you know im doing the 2.7T swap.
I am having trouble with the fueling.

I have a 3.0L filter as it is not regulated and the 1.8 Filter is regulated to 3 BAR.
and the 2.7T requires 4 BAR. This is to the best of my knowledge.

The 3.0L has only 1 inlet and 1 outlet
The 1.8T has 2 inlets and 2 outlets

So far this is what I think is happening.

As WAR MACHINE pointed out in his swap. If you do not connect the drivers side tank somehow, you cannot get the last 1/8 tank of fuel out.

I am thinking of adding a tee to the passengers die on the inlet part of the filter but I am not 100% sure on exactly what all 4 ports do?
Can someone help me clarify the fuel system on the stock 1.8t Quattro system.

on the 1.8T, the 4 fuel filter connections are as follows

rear center: return line, to driver side tank cover/suction pump
rear outer: feed line from pump / pass tank cover
front center: vent line to pass tank cover
front outer: feed line to engine

the return line from the filter feeds the suction jet pump on the driver's side of the tank, which transfers the fuel to the pass side of the tank (and directly into the pump baffle area)

edit: here's a pic of the suction jet pump / transfer mechanism:

    Thank you for they diagram.
I wonder if you have any advice on how one would go about converting to a return based system?

My original idea seems to not be the best after seeing this.

I did this when I converted to return fuel.

That is a very interesting mod there.
I am willing to add new lines in a attempt to keep the evap in tack however.

Do you think this method can be modified to keep the evap?
    Thanks that's a great help

Wondering if this is my solution?

I will call them tomorrow and see if this "converts" to returnless or if it works with a already "converted" system?

I thought also that was a kit to make a b6 return but it is a fuel line size upgrade. It just makes the feed line larger, From what the ad says.

I'm going to just add the 3.0 return line and use a 3.0 filter, plus a B5/passat rail. Evap will work as normal, only thing unused will be the vent line from the filter to the pass side of tank.

So you plan on blocking the vent opening in the top of the pump lid on the passenger side.

And run the return line into the existing port on the drivers side tank.

    Is that correct?

If you run the 3.0 Return to the passenger side im thinking you will be like the others and not be able to get the last of the fuel out of the drivers side tank.

    Stock 1.8t is 4bar regulated.
The listed 034 link is to upgrade your stock fuel line from the filter to the rail with a -6AN line. It retains the factory 4 bar filter like OEM.

correct. I can't see why this would cause an issue with being able to get all the fuel out of the tank though.

The people that put the return in the passenger side have the issue with getting the fuel out of the drivers tank.

But I think returning it to the drivers side will solve this.

    Hopefully

    Hopefully
the stock 1.8T setup has the return going to the driver's side, if you change this then you won't get fuel <1/4 tank from the driver's side as there will be no mechanism to transfer the fuel to the pass side.

why would you want to run the return to the pass side? just cap the vent line, and leave everything else as-is

    Yep, that was my thinking.
However I think some people make the mistake and use the vent in the passenger side as the return.

I will use this method as it seems the best way to get it done while keeping the evap.
And I have a B5 return line but I believe those go to the passenger side so I will have to modify it slightly.

Am I correct in assuming there is virtually no pressure in the return line. >1bar ?

My setup keeps the feed line the same and uses the evap line as a return to the tank. My car is an 05 so my intake pump is b7 style so it actually uses a second feed line to syphon gas from the driver's side of the tank.

I like your idea, it's just that I would like to keep the evap system intact.

I have been reading about several different ways and the adding of a return line to the drivers side is the most appealing to me at this point.

    1.8T Fueling diagram

WarMachine on here just did a 2.7 swap and I believe his mistake was not returning to the drivers side.
In a post he made in my other thread...

"- Fuel - You can simply Add a return line and use the 1.8t filter. I used the 3.0 filter as well, but I had to cap off the driver side pickup line. And I can't pickup the last 1.8th of the tank. I know how to fix it, just havent. You would need two T the two fuel lines before they go into the filter."

Of course his "solution" is also incorrect. As per the diagram posted above.
