AWE Touring Exhaust - 2012 Audi S5 4.2L

Hey Gents,

Relatively new to this forum, but have spent a few weeks reading through posts - specifically exhaust related.

I've settled on getting the AWE Touring Exhaust (polished tips) for my 2012 S5, as I have the tiptronic (had to make the wife happy) and if I stick with cat-back exhaust (no downpipes) I don't think my dealership will make a huge stink as I have just under 2 years left for warranty.

My question for anyone in the know, is do the 'gains' (10-20hp) reported on AWE's website apply to a vehicle without changing the downpipes and does it matter if it's manual or auto?

10-20 hp? Noo way.. The hp won't be noticeable , it's really the sound you are getting. Don't get me wrong , I just got my 14 s4 and I'm thinking of doing the Same exhaust

power gains, if any will probably not be noticeable. you may or may not notice a slight improvement in throttle response.

Our exhaust for the B8 and B8.5 S5s don't touch any emissions-related equipment in any way, so if your dealer gives you any hassle over having an exhaust, they'd really be pulling hairs.

Our published gains are tied to a vehicle's spec, though; there may be slight differences between a manual vs. an automatic, but they'll be minimal.

Exhaust as in exhaust only - not downpipe correct? I'll probably wait for the downpipe until my warranty has expired.

Correct. Downpipes are separate.

These guys are on point. Our downpipes don't alter the factory emissions equipment, so I wouldn't worry too much about warranty grief from the dealer. Just a little extra sound and power.

Hey Zack - totally forgot about this thread. My system is getting installed today after being shipped took over a month :(

Question - you're saying with the downpipe, not only does it change the sound, but there's extra performance increase? The stats you show on your website, is that with or without a downpipe?

Any gains realized from the downpipes will be minimal, as they're largely for sound enhancement.

All numbers shown on our website for the S5 4.2L exhaust are for the exhaust system only, no downpipes.

Hi Andrew. You should have no dealer issues with exhaust and DP. I bought an 11 S5 last year and installed intake, AWE exhaust and DP, stage 2 tune, sway bars and links etc.. I have had warranty work and maintenance done on 3 separate occasions with no issues. And no TD1. Make friends with your service reps, and you'll be ok. Congrats on the car and exhaust. Enjoy! :)

My dealer seems to be sticky, as I asked them if they'd warranty it and they said 'if we can trace the problem back to the exhaust, it'll be void' as well 'the downpipe voids the emissions warranty'. The service department at my Audi dealership here in town are known to have less than stellar customer service - just read their Google Reviews: http://goo.gl/1MrqV6

Nothing that a strongly worded letter directly to Audi can't address :)

Well just took her for a rip ... wow!

That sound is absolutely intoxicating. The car definitely feels more responsive, and in dynamic mode the rpm's seem to hold for longer which is awesome. It completely changes the overall dynamic of the car ... this exhaust was made for this car!

Awesome.. I felt the same after my install. Makes you find an excuse to drive as much as possible. Enjoy!
