P2008 Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Open - Help?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys,

    Vehicle: 2009 S5 4.2L V8

I've been searching the forum for the past few days, but can't seem to find the answer/fix to this problem. CEL light is on, and the scan is showing P2008 Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Open.

    My question is this:

    - Is the fix to this common problem a solenoid replacement? If so, which one?
    - Is the fix to replace the actuator flap under the intake manifold? Can you order that part separately or do you have to buy an entire IM?

Any help is greatly appreciated. This seems to be a common problem, but there isn't much information I can find on the S5 V8. Thanks in advance.

I've replaced several intake flap solenoid actuators to resolve this issue. The solenoid is under the intake manifold, next to right side (when standing in front of the car) fuel rail.

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the reply. Did you change the solenoid on the S5 V8, and it did the trick? Is this something that can be bought separately, or do I need to purchase an entire intake manifold? Do you by chance have a part number?

    Thanks again.

    EDIT:

Part number for the solenoid is 037906283C and runs about $200 from the dealer. There seems to be only one to replace.

I believe Ryan is talking about number 42 in the above link diagram. That seems to be the only solenoid located under the intake manifold. Is that correct?

Also check the 4.2l sub forum--part availability depends on your model year. I had this, too.

Thanks for the help John. Did changing the solenoid fix your issue?

Yea #42 is it, I replaced 2 in the last couple months and fixed problem, since you will have intake off wouldn't hurt to clean carbon off intake valves. I've heard of replacing intakes for build up but never seen one with issue.

Thanks for your help. Have you had to change the intake flap itself when this problem came up?

    No just the solenoid
Only reason to change intake flap or lower intake manifold if it is 2 piece intake is if the vacuum diaphragm isn't holding vacuum

Just a quick update: I changed the intake flap motor, located just outside of the manifold. It requires you to pull the bumper to make room to work, but this is what caused the problem, in case anyone needs this for the future. Thanks again to everyone who replied, I appreciate it very much.

After a week of driving, I feel a noticeable difference in power (likely to do it not being in safe mode) and the light hasn't come back on since.
