    Water in doors

For as long as I can remember, when I open my drivers side door after rain storms/ being under a sprinkler, floods come out from behind the weather stripping, and I can't figure out for the life of me what's causing it.

It's so bad that I have to move the rubber weather stripping around the bottom to get it out.

Are there any drains that could possibly be clogged causing the water to go into the doors? It's now starting to happen in my rear drivers side door too.

I really don't wanna rip the door apart if the problem is elsewhere. If there's a thread already, I couldn't find it from my phone

    Any input would be helpful.

Hmmm, could be the bottom of the door drain holes are not able to drain while the door is closed, or look at the drain hole shown draining into the door jam at the 56th second in this video. Hope this helps.

Ahh thank you so much, Turbavanttro! That thread didn't pop up when I searched from my phone. Fail. I'm gonna test it out tomorrow to see what happens.

    That's exactly what I needed.

Don't feel bad about the search fail. I actually found that by doing a google search. I tend to have better luck finding the info I am looking for on Audizine through a google search than I do through the AZ search engine :) Odd. But whatever works!

That water is normal; the drains run through the door and out a hole on the bottom. Open your door and pour water on your window, it will dump from the bottom of the door unless something is blocking it.

It should drain out all the time, not just when you open your door. If it only drains when the door is open, there is a blockage somewhere.

There are drains in the rear lower corners of the doors, and one or two other drains in the doors. Check the drains for blocking. My doors release water after opening also, always have since new. If the doors can't drain at all, they will fill up and overflow water into the cabin floors. Rare event, but it happens. The side window seals are not leak proof. When it rains, water normally gets into the doors from the bottom outside edge of the window glass weather seal strip. Also, the main door seals, being hollow rubber sections, will trap a lot of water that can only flow out of the door seals after the doors are opened. If the seals are catching a large amount of water, check for cracks or holes in the upper seal areas.

I know water is supposed to drain from that area, but instead of coming out of the drain holes it's pouring inside the actual door itself, and coming out of the bottom behind the squishy weather stripping.

Thank you diagnosticator! The seals ARE catching a tremendous amount of water (if I continuously keep squishing the weather stripping where the water's coming out of, ill leave HUGE puddles behind.) I haven't been able to find any visible cracks/ tears that could be causing it though.

I know for a fact it's not a normal amount, because my last B6 was nothing like this.

Time for a more thorough inspection/ drain testing.

Mine collects too, but only at the front of the doors for the front, and towards the rear in the back. It never seems to collect in both front and rear, just usually the fronts based on how I park. Good luck with your issue though. I never really gave it much thought as it wasn't an excessive amount, unless it had just stopped raining, and it was never getting inside or causing any problems for me.

Yeh for a while it wasn't anything too serious, but lately it's been a substantial amount. Ill take a picture and post it up in here when it happens. If I shake the door back and forth you can hear the water splashing around inside.

I know water is inevitably gonna get in there, but this is a huge amount now.

And nothing like this ever happened with my last 3.0. So that's kinda what I'm gauging it off of too, versus the fact it's never been this bad on this car before.
