B7 Fuel Pump Replacement and fuel line issues

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm going to replace my Low pressure fuel pump on a 2006 A4 quattro 2.0L. I've tried several times to get the one line off the pump, no luck. The line with blue tabs comes right off. The line with black tabs, no dice.

I've orderd the new pump and am thinking i will have to splice in a short piece of rubber fuel line and use hose clamps.

Has anyone had any issues with hose clamps and traditional fuel line not holding the pressure created by low pressure pump?

    Thanks

    Jim

I do recall one being a bitch, but with two people, one was able to apply enough pressure to the squeezy part whilst the other was able to pry it off.

Thanks, I've tried with two people. The tabs to be squeezed are pretty much trashed at this point. It's not coming off. Once I get the new pump i may cut the plastic stub off the top of the pump assembly to try and remove the line once i can flip it over and get at it from the underside. But if that fails I really need to know if I can just splice the line and attach with hose clamp.

How much pressure can this pump put out that it would blow off a hose clamp?

Not sure if they are they same kind of fittings as on the filter but I used the usual Audi plug "push on-squeeze-pull off" method. I also used a pair of needle-nosed pliers on the clips to give it a good squeeze beforehand and make sure the clip itself was "loose".

Yeah, it could just be that first push part. Definitely push first, then squeeze, then pull.

Push and squeeze with a little pressure.

They are not the same fittings as on the filter. I'm going to buy some rubber fuel line and decent clamps as a backup. I dont see this line coming off and being usable. Pump is on order. I'll let you know how this disaster goes.

    Thanks

OK, an update. Ordered the pump and installed it last night. Had a friend help me for another set of hands. We ended up taking off the one line (blue tabs) which always came off easily. Then we removed the locking ring and lifted the green cover plate of the pump assembly out and tilted it on its side. My friend was then able to work the other line off by using a pick from the underside to push the internal locking mechanism of the quick connect up. Then gas came gushing out.

Moral of the story...go up to the engine or down to the fuel filter and bleed the pressure off the lines. The connector would probably be much easier to remove.

As a matter of interest, why were you replacing the in-tank fuel pump? The reason I ask is that despite just having the HPFP, cam and follower replaced under warranty, and replacing the fuel filter myself, I'm still getting a low fuel pressure code (no CEL) and loss of sudden power under acceleration. This item seems like my next option.
