    a4 non quattro worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Went to look into buying an 08 a4 non quattro 60k miles for 13k it was going good until we realized it was not quattro. Are these 2ls worth it without quattro? I'm a b5 s4 guy with rs6s so I'm not sure if you need the quattro with the 2l turbo. He would like possibly mod it down the road but if the quattro is the way to go we will keep looking.

One of our cars (my wife's 2010 A4) is CVT (FWD) and it's really a different drive than my quattro avant. You don't have to push very hard to immediately know you're in a non-quattro car. As others have suggested, I'd have your friend continue his search for a quattro car.

I drove bot before buying and went with FWD... Maybe I need to drive one again. My research told me that the quattro only added weight, and added maintenance. I've heard time-and-time again that really quattro is only a pro if you live where you see lots of snow/ice or take it to the track to bang on it often.

I've been more than happy with our FWD. Take that for what it's worth.

Having driven both long-term, both have the same teutonic feel. However, I noticed a profound difference highspeed and wet roads. You'll feel the traction give way to hydroplaning with the FWD more, whereas Quattro feels more planted, almost as if you're cutting through the standing water. I doubt that's actually happening if you understand the dynamics of AWD, but that's how it feels to me. It is a more confident ride.

Lol @ Bailey Jay hahaha, wish I didn't know who that was but god damn 4chan.

I wouldn't buy a FWD Audi in my climate, hell I didn't even let myself buy a FWD Passat.

And even if I never saw a speck of snow i'd still likely have an AWD torsen based car.

All this hate for FWD :(
I love my Audi.... but if I could go back in time I would get a Quattro. Then again, I got mine in 2008 for $20k... so there is that.

Long story short - if you are getting an AMAZING price on it, its still an amazing car and can be tuned to 300ish whp without a TON of issues (assuming you get good tires).... But Quattro is still better.

So much hate on FWD... I don't have any problems with my car and honestly it's not a big deal, I live in Texas and go to school in Arkansas so Quattro isn't something I would die without. However, if I went back knowing everything I know about Audi's now I would have gotten a Quattro (and made a bunch of different decisions). So if it's a phenomenal price and Quattro isn't necessary then sure, but I'm willing to bet there is a Quattro out there waiting to be bought.

    Sou-weeeeee-pig!!!

Funny, most of our road trips from Dallas are to AR. Mom's in Searcy and step brother and sister in Fayetteville. We go up to Pt. Jean to have our family Christmas. I agree totally, around here it's not a "must have" but if I had it to do over would get Quattro too.

I used to have a FWD A4 and it constantly filled me with regret. Wheel spin, wheel spin, wheels spin (in any weather)... torque steer, more prominent understeer, almost no ability to oversteer... one of the worst car decisions I've ever made (going from a quattro A6 to a front track A4). It looked good though...

Exactly. Even if you never seen snow the car still drives completely different. You don't need quattro but it sure as hell makes for a better driving car.

I wonder how different this conversation would be if the option were a RWD A4 over quattro. A lot of us would be all over that.

I've driven some great fwd cars, heck I had my cousins Mazdaspeed 3 the last 2 days to do running around while mine was waiting parts.

I just feel the A4 platform is too long and nose heavy to feel right as a fwd car, I had a 2 door golf with a few mods and nice suspension, loved it, it didn't feel heavy or very unbalanced when pushed around.

When I was shopping my A4 in 2010 I didn't even know they still made B6 or B7 FWD I thought it was only the B5 A4 and passats that ended up as that. Also I would say a good 70-80% of B6 and B7s in Canada are quattro.

We buy Audis *because* of the Quattro. I drive a manual, so I don't care much for the CVT on the FWD, but the regular automatic on the Quattro loaner I got from the dealership was snappy enough!
