Would you buy a high mileage A4

Well, I've always wanted a Quattro A4, but I just saw a 2009 fwd A4 premium for sale for $12,997 at a local car lot. The only issue is the car has 98,000 miles. Would you pick up a high mileage A4? I've never owned an Audi, but I do work on cars. My last project was 1997 240sx with an LS1.

Get a quattro. If you don't, you might as well go after a VW..

My old audi was FWD manual but I lived in FL and didnt have any interest about mods / aftermarket tuning. Its only until I got here on AZ did I feel silly for not getting AWD.

You're already here, get a quattro lol

Wait for a Quattro. For a few grand more than that you can get one with similar miles if you aren't picky about the transmission. Manuals do tend to command a premium price though.

To your second point - Especially if you work on cars yourself, I wouldn't be too scared of an Audi at ~100k, any more than another car.
You will have some repairs to do over the next 50k of course.

Only question I'm not sure of is longevity of the turbo and wastegate flapper specifically. There was recently a warranty extension but only to 70k miles I believe.

Good info to know. Was the warranty extension for the entire drivetrain or only the turbo?

I'm looking into a particularly exceptional case of a high mileage A4: a 2012 premium plus 2.0T quattro with a 6 speed and 133k miles. It's a great price and as it's guaranteed to be primarily highway miles, it should still be in good mechanical condition. Any thoughts?

Don't buy any used car on what its condition should be. That is based on perception. Buy it based on facts about its history.

    Just my 2 cents

That's true. What I meant is, given that it has been maintained properly and is in generally good working order, what could I expect in terms of mid to long term repairs on a 2.5 year old A4 with 133k miles?

Do NOT buy a high mileage 2009!
Whatever you save is a gamble on repairs.

Are you referring to the turbo warranty extension that's just come out, or some other problem with 2009s? Would you recommend against a high mileage 2012?

Parts wear out based more on use than age. Parts with 133k miles on them are a lot more likely to fail or need replacement than parts with far fewer miles. No one can give you specifics, but in general the money you save buying a high mileage car often gets spent later on when it needs repairs. If you buy something with fewer miles it will cost more upfront but you'll won't be out of pocket as soon for major repairs, and may even be able to avoid them all together depending on how long you keep the car.

    Totally agree.

I don't care if the 133k miles are highway or not - that is a helluva lot of miles for 2012. By way of comparison, on my 2012 I only have 18K so far......

I have a 2010 a4 automatic with 56k miles! I bought it back in February with 48k miles! So far I have not had issues with oil, etc! I do lots of driving but 90% highway! I am wondering what route I should take!

Option A- keep up with all the maintenance I can do, maybe get a tune, few other modifications and keep the car 2-3 yrs
    Or
Option B- keep up with maintenance, keep the car mostly stock, only keep it for another year!
