S6 manual swap finished! Quick question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just finished my swap project and it went well aside from doing a few things twice.

I have no check engine lights at all, the manual file worked well.

The only question I have is about the accelerator pedal. My car seems a bit "laggy" for lack of a better word. Has anyone else had this? Perhaps normal programming to keep the car smooth? Any input is welcome.

    TIA!

nice. did you use one of the online instruction sets?

did you swap the entire pedal assembly? or were you able to install the clutch pedal onto the assembly thats in place?

Laggy? As in...? You touch the accel and there's a delay in response? Or it's just slow? RPM's hang a little..?
You might try a throttle body adaptation, can't remember what measuring block/ basic setting it is..56?

Should not be laggy, as a matter of fact mine hits a little TOO HARD when you touch the gas- almost jerky. What engine 'soft coding' did you use?

I used the google docs writeup.

I moved the pedals over to the bracket already in place. I did not want to loosen the brake booster.

After flashing the 559E file, recode it to a manual (10712 if using said 559E file)(03283 NRS^ pre)
    Clear ECM fault(s)
Login to your ABS module (either 07497 or 07495 {IIRC} depending upon which motor you have) and then change the last digit of your current coding to a 5, i.e. if your coding was 06397, change it to 06395.
Select login for your steering angle sensor and input value 40168. Do it.
Select basic settings and from the drop down menu select steering angle sensor. Do it

what about brake swich? Have u put it back correctly? It is 2 stage unit. Using VCDS check it...could be, that after u release brake pedal, one stage is still engaged and then shit happens with throttle and response ( my own expierence). Try moving it closer to pedal to be 100% sure.

Good call, I will take a look at that. I just threaded in to where I 'thought' it should go.

After my swap, I am still getting ABS and ESP light.
    But even more 'disturbing':
    - cruise control doesn't work
    - interior lights don't work (DO work when opening the doors)
Note: car has coil over conversion, so the suspension height warning is always on. But all of the above worked prior to the swap

Also note: I swapped entire manual pedal cluster over, but brake switch was different style. So I had to cut the old (auto) connector off and solder in the pigtail for the new (manual) switch. Since no one seemed to have the 2 wiring diagrams, and just matched the wire colors.
    Any thoughts on the above?

Sounds like a clutch switch issue. Did you install the clutch switch? If so, use vagcom to check if it is working properly.

you have to wire up the clutch switch to the ECU and ground it to the white wire off the brake switch for cruise control.

Your ABS and ESP light are on cause your car is still trying to talk to the transmission, from what I understand is some of the ABS/ Traction control runs through the auto trans.

Weird your headlight sensor level light is on. Mine has been lowered for quite some time and never givin me issues.

You can use either early or late brake switch, doesnt make a difference.

The pump timing on my 2.5tdi allroad was just out of spec. Took a lot of cranking when the engine was cold. I would get randomn ABS, levelling suspension and brake warnings. Cruise would cutout and I would have to pull over, restart the engine to reset it.

Fixed the pump timing and still got ABS & suspension faults & no cruise. I thought it was the Bosch 5.7 unit. VCDS said there was a problem with the ABS controller. It turned out it was the brake light switch. Fixed it and no more problems. We had 2 weeks of snow in the UK. Driving in the snow with summer tyres and no ABS wasn't much fun.

Suspension light (its and Allroad thing) is on due to coil over conversion.

Creating new topics must be harder than I thought. But if it isn't, can you guys bugger off to your own thread?

But for real I didn't know the brake switch out of spec can cause a laggy throttle. I'm going to adjust mine tommorow. Learn something new every day.

Edit: after I changed plugs and o2 sensors I adjusted the clutch and brake switches to factory spec. One of those things completely fixed my laggy first gear hesitation. Completely different car. Awesome
