    Excessive soot/carbon on tailpipe

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My wife's 2013 A4 2.0 has what I would consider excessive carbon build up on the tailpipes. I clean them almost every week. By the end of the week they are completely covered in carbon. More so on the outer exhaust tip. Is this normal? Bad injectors? no lights or warning codes.

When I had the stock exhaust I experienced the same thing on my 13, I thinks it's normal. It's even more noticeable now with the Stasis Exhaust and Hi-flow cat. It's wipes right off though.
MODS: Pretty close to everything and the kitchen sink.

thanks for the reply. The carbon is near impossible to remove. 0000 steel wool with P21 polish won't remove it. I may have to break out my mini air die grinder with some Stainless cut polish and buffing pads.

    This -- works well!

I've read that the soot is caused due to our cars running rich.

I have to same thing on my '11...and it is white. Had it on the stock everything, APR Stage 2 & APR Exhaust, and now on my K04. Nature of the TFSI beast. Keep the back bumper clean and well waxed. That color WILL stain your paint if you let it build up. NEverDull is great on the tail pipes.

Where is this sold? I'm compulsive about having a clean car and the dirty exhaust tips always look like crap.

Aluminum foil w/ water or ceramic cook top cleaner also work great. The aluminum foil [preferred] doesn't get dried white cleaner on the bumper either and makes those chrome tips shine.

How exactly does the aluminum foil work? You just rub a sheet of it on the tailpipe and the black stuff magically comes off?

Adam's All Purpose Cleaner and 0000 steel wool works for me.

Crumble up the aluminum foil, dip in water, scrub the tips, and yes, the black stuff magically comes off. Then, finish with a soft dry towel and admire the shine.
