2012 B8 - Software Update for Transmission and ECM - TSB Numbers

Hey Guys -

If any 2012 B8 owners are experiencing a rough upshift/downshift between 1st & 2nd gears, there is a TSB to address this issue. I went to my dealer yesterday to use my coupon for a free tire rotation, and while there asked them to check on upshift/downshift issues I experienced. Here is the TSB information from my work order relative to this addressing issue:

TSB: 2032812/4
37302599 - Update TCM software
24702599 - Update Engine Control Unit Software
01500000 - GFF/GUided Functions
01210002 - Test Drive
01210004 - Test Drive

Note that what I experienced was intermittent in nature (and I was expecting a "could not replicate finding"), but you could definitely feel the harshness of the shift if/when it occurred.

This TSB may also be relevant to other years/models experiencing this issue, but it is definitely applicable to the 2012 B8/A4 Sedan & Avant.

Weekends are when I do most of my driving so I'll be in a better position to judge in the next couple of days, but so far, so good.

I honestly don't know; but mine is an auto FWIW.

Any update on this one? I had my 2012 A4 in last year for the 45k maintenance interval and a transmission re-learn and got the "that's just how they drive" from the tech. I will ask if they checked or corrected for TSB 2032812/6 on mine. It's always bothered me, wondering if yours was fixed for good. I saw a transmission mount I could install, if the clunkyness came back have you thought of trying that?

I have a 2012 avant and mine only does is on down shift from 3rd to 2nd I'll be coming to a stop and it's like it's trying to take off lurch forward
Is that what was happening to your before the update ?
And will this affect my apr tune if they update tcm software ?

Further transmission control module (TCM), J217 (address word 02), software calibration needed to improve shift concerns. Further engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 01), software calibration needed to improve hesitation.

Production Solution

New software in the TCM and ECM addresses the condition.

Service

To achieve the best results, both the ECM software and the TCM software must be at the latest levels.

Early production vehicles may need the crankcase pressure regulating valve, front crankshaft seal, and crankshaft bolt replaced with the ECM software update.

Checking or replacing crankcase pressure regulating valve:


1. Check the part number of the crankcase pressure regulating valve.


2. If the installed part number is 06H 103 495 AE, proceed to the SVM update instructions. Do not replace any parts.


3. If the installed part number is not 06H 103 495 AE:


a. Replace crankcase pressure regulating valve with part number 06H 103 495 AE.


b. Replace front crankshaft seal with part number 06L 103 085 B. (Also requires front crankshaft bolt WHT 001 760)."

I assume this is for the automatics, but are manual transmissions affected in any way as well?

No, there is no module controlling a manual transmission. Since you already have a 2012, you already have the updated crank breather / pistons / and crank seal / ecu software level.

Just to add another data point. I've got a B8 (pre-facelift) that I thought just downshifted oddly, and it started slamming when upshifting occasionally.

The dealer applied 2032812/9 which included both the software updates and all of the parts (PRV, seal).

It seems significantly better in the ~10 miles i drove it home.

Let us know what you think of it, I might have to take mine in for it if that helps with some of the harsh shifting.
