add oil, max 1 quart. you may continue to drive.

I noticed the oil was running a little low on the MMI, but wanted to wait until MMI complained like the manual says. It finally did. Last maintenance was at 12,213, at 19,167 now. I just added a quart, looks to still be down a quarter of a quart from the dip stick, no levels on the MMI, just a warning message, weird and not very useful, glad I got the dip stick.

7k miles @ 1.24 quarts burned. More than my last maintenance period, stage-2 might have something to do with that.

Manual seems to imply the updated oil level should be reflected the next time the car is started, I didn't see any change after two off/on cycles about 20 minutes apart. Dip stick looks mostly good, maybe I need to add that last 1/4 quart, though for some reason the message says 1 quart max (I hit the max already). Confusing. That is a weird message, max 1 quart, I usually just add oil until its to the max line. What do you guys think? Drive for a little longer to see if the message goes away, if not, add the last 1/4 quart? That's what I'm thinking of doing. Never heard of mixing too much new oil between oil changes causing a problem if its all the same brand and weight, I'm using the OEM Castrol stuff, maybe they are worried about mixing other types of weights and brands?

    Thanks!

Dipstick to MMI level are inconsistent. MMI at full is well above the full mark on the dipstick. I have the dipstick and no longer rely on it solely.

I heard folks were getting the wrong dip sticks before, I got mine from ECS Tuning about 2 years ago, it was under the B8 S4 parts list. I would have thought MMI would have complained when down 1 quart, according to the dipstick it complained when it was down 1.25 quarts, but still won't stop complaining.

The dipstick reads high so if you fill to the full mark it is lower than max on MMI. I'd rather error a bit on the side of overfilling (if the MMI is wrong) vs the stick. Either way drain completely, fill to spec.

I prefer motul, and if you're stage 2 I hope you do oil changes every 5k at least! Keep the beast running strong!

I don't beat on it every day, just a random quick sprint in one or two gears here and there (2-3 times) a week (that's all it takes to put a smile on my face), you still think every 5k?

Yes sir, if you plan on keeping the car for a while. I would do it every 5k even if it wasn't tuned. Tuned engines deserve more care.

Mixing oil is not a problem, and perfectly fine. API set standards so that they are all compatible with each other. That being said, I can't get myself to do it very often....it just feels wrong. :-0

Yeah, I would change your oil every 5k miles. I would also use Motul as it cost just about the same as buying European Castrol from Walmart.

Sounds like my hood sensor might not be working:

No codes. The car won't re-measure the oil level, connections to the hood open/closed sensor look good. probably bad like all the others. Time to visit Audi again, lets see if they blame it on the pulley install, lol!

Confirmed the hood sensor is faulty. LV_CAN_HOOD_SWI is always 0, when the hood is opened, not just popped with the lever, it should read 1, never does.

    Address 01: Engine (8K0 907 551 D)

I'll be seeing Audi tomorrow morning for a replacement.

"max 1 quart", I get it now, they are afraid people will keep adding quart after quart until the low-oil message goes away, but it won't always go right away or if your hood sensor is broke, it never will. LOL

If your hood latch switch was broken, your Open Hood indicator would be illuminated on the dash center console. Do you see it indicate this if you key the car On but not start the motor? Do this. With the key in the On position (i.e. put the key in and press it without depressing the brake so the engine doesn't start) and see if you see the red hood open indicator on the dash when you open the hood. If you do, then turn off the car and leave the driver door open. Then close the hood and return to the driver seat and leave the door open. Put the key in and key the car On (don't start engine/keep your foot off the brake). Hood open icon should be gone. Put your foot on the brake and push key in again and start the car. In a second or two, the Oil Level indicator should show up in the center console and once this happens, the reset to the MMI should happen.

If you have NAV and you have the full color center display, this is how it works. If you cheaped out and you go the red one cuz no NAV, I can't tell you if the behavior will be the same.

If you have smart key, just press the button without depressing the brake per my directions above. It does the same thing that way... control it the same way, just replace the word key with start button in the directions above.

Thanks Swank! I was looking for a hood open indicator earlier I didn't see any icons light up on my dash. Maybe it fails such that it always indicates closed instead of open.

I did take my car to Audi this morning, they found a faulty hood sensor, and have replaced it. Covered under warranty!

now that my hood sensor is fix fixed, I see what Swank was mentioning, pix below. Also, right now the MMI and dip stick both match and read max.
