Same comments as vce on the DP. The exhaust looks good and borla mufflers are usually pretty loud and mostly raspy

I just received my TT DP last week but haven't had a chance to install yet. The quality is first class as it should be for three bills.

Any thoughts on the performance gains the TT DP gives? I'm APR stage 2+ looking for more out of my current setup and the TT DP sounds like a good cheap addition.

I hate it does nothing but drone. It doesn't sound the way that video makes it sound as well. The only reason I bought it was it is suppose to be a 2.5in exhaust. However I found out it is not it is 2.5 to dual 2.25. To add to it the exhaust makes noise due to expansion and contraction of dissimilar metals and the reuse of the bolts on the center bar right after the rear dif, the crappy clamps and the hose clamps on the rear hangers as the place holder for the price of the exhaust is just sad.

Just get the stasis best sounding exhaust on this car. I hate that I didn't repurchase, due to false advertising, one for this A4 after the last one was damaged during the rear ending.

This is good feedback. Looks like I'll just stick with my HFC and call it a day.

Did anybody install the downpipe by itself? Are there any performance benefits and/or sound improvement?

I ran the unitronic 3" HFC and downpipe on the stock downpipe back exhaust and had good gains on the butt dyno but no sound change.

I have a TT downpipe coupled with an 034 HFC. Much throatier sound and spool up time is much quicker. TT makes great products, I've used their exhausts exclusively for the past 10 years of my vw's.

No drone at all. In fact I think it sounds 100% better than my old setup of a test pipe coupled with stock downpipe back exhaust.

Does any body know for sure the diameter of the stock downpipe? Did a couple of searches and came up with 2.125, is that correct?

Check my thread here, completely measured all parts of the stock exhaust. Looks like 2" for the whole downpipe.

    Great write up JR.

I got a chance to install my TT DP yesterday and have mixed emotions about it. While the materials are no doubt higher quality, the craftsmanship leaves some to be desired.

The pipe fit perfectly, better that the OE pipe did, but the holes that mount the cat/TP to the dp were effed up. 2 were too small and drilled at an angle and the third was elongated. It wasn't a hard fix but for the premium they charge for their product, it shouldn't need to be 'fixed'.

Besides the issues you encountered. What's your final verdict? Any performance improvement or better sound?

Definitely sounds better. As for performance, I don't know if there was a measurable increase. I needed to replace my DP as I didn't like the look of the flex pipe and I wanted to revise my port for my PCV to put it at the bend (which is the ideal location). Keep in mind that I still have my stock exhaust from the DP back.

    Hello Guys,

Just installed the TT downpipe, the one that is suppose to fit the standard exhaust and I'm very fucking disappointed. First of all, like another member mentioned here the coupler holes connecting to the cat/test pipe are about one mm smaller. 2) The downpipe is at least 1/4 of a inch short. 3) To top things off the tapered end of the pipe that is supposed to connect to the standard exhaust won't fit inside the mid pipe. They need to go back to the drawing board on this one, going to contact their customer service and see what they say.

Damn.... Thats sux... Ive mine with out hic up... But I did buy the coupler from them that joins the DP to the Mid pipe. I noticed that the one they sent was longer then the factory one. I know why now....I had no problems connecting it to the APR testpipe at the flange with the supplied hardware... There a pretty stand up company.. I'm pretty sure they will make it right

Just a FYI. The DP does not insert into the mid pipe. The couple is used to join the both together if that helps

Not sure about yours but my original downpipe goes into the midpipe. Just emailed them lets see what they say.

x2. There should be a coupler there. A slip joint on a FI exhaust is a bad idea. They came from the factory with a 55mm coupler (approx 2.25").

    Just an update,

TT customer service is horrible, the first guy I talked to was some what helpful but the person I needed to talked to was now available, so I was asked to call back, when I did the second guy was a total dick to say the least, finally got a call back and was told that a 1/2 inch or more was expected between the DP and the midpipe, this sounds ridiculous to me since the standard parts are no where near this fit and this is what they advertise. Also I found out that the DP that doesn't have the reduced end is even shorter in length and they make up for it by making their midpipe longer, which is totally stupid because only their exhaust fits the DP. If they are trying to fuck us I think they are doing a pretty good job.

Do not get a TT DP, the part is defective and their customer service is horrible. Also their write a review feature on their site doesn't work or is being vetted for only great reviews, which makes the whole thing irrelevant.

    .
Plenty of companies do that. Their full 2.5" DP is made to mate up to their 2.5" exhaust. APR/Billy Boat/Stasis is the same way, the downpipe they supplied in their exhaust systems were meant to mate up to their exhaust. If you try to use an APR downpipe from their exhaust with say an AWE or Stasis exhaust, it will not line up.

My tiptronic TT downpipe fit perfect on my B7 with stock catback. The tapered section doesn't go into the midpipe, it should just about butt up to it and then the sleeve clamp seals and holds the two pipes together. My factory downpipe was the same way. I think the gap was about 1" between the two pipes.

That is also very weird about their customer service. They are one of the oldest and most trusted vendors in the business, and aren't out there to screw the consumer. I can't think of a situation where they didn't take care of their customers. I have been around these cars for 14 years. I have been dealing with Techtonics for 12 years. I have bought 4 or 5 exhausts from them, multiple cam sets, software for multiple cars and various little parts. Never an issue that they couldn't resolve in a respectable, timely fashion. The last chip I got from them for my current vr6 did not run right on initial throttle tip in because I failed to mention I was using a different throttle body then stock. I called Collin and told him, sent him a few logs of the car and a few days later I had a new chip in my mailbox free of charge that both fixed the problem and was revamped based of the logs to run even better. That is good customer service.

X2 ^^^^^ about Techtonic tuning customer service. Ive used them back in the 80's with my A1 GTI's. Never a problem with exhausts or cams. Collin is a stand up person. Dealt with him for over 25 years.

I mated my TTDP with tapered end to my stock exhaust and AWE without any problems. I used their sleeve clamp.

I really didn't want to sound like a douche, incase I did, just venting I guess. My experience was not the same as yours, I can only wish it was. The first dude I talked to was very dismissive, the second was a total dick and Collin didn't sound very knowledgeable. He also mentioned that they do not check any forums for reviews and/or issues so I think they are interested in customer service like other companies around here. Thanks for the info regarding the DP not matching with other different companies, did not know that. I guess they thought me a lesson worth 300 bux, wasn't trying to cheap out, was just trying to go slow to find that perfect set up.

Understandable dude, we all have bad days and crummy situations. I've been working for vw/audi dealers for a decade so I have seen and heard it all lol. Anyway TT will never have a presence on the internet world, they are an school company in that aspect and I guess being in business for 30+ years they don't feel the need to be all over the internet. I am honestly not sure who they staff there though, I normally ask for Collin. He is one of the "brains" so to speak of the company. He was finding horsepower and going fast back in the early 80's when modifying watercooled vw's was a new thing. He is very highly regarded for his tuning abilities however I don't think he it out there in the fabrication shop making downpipes and mocking up exhausts, so if there is a fitment issue, he may have no idea.

Does your stock exhaust sleeve cover up both pipes a decent amount? I positioned mine so the gap between the pipes was in the center of the clamp, also added a small dab of high temp rtv, to aid in sealing, and make it easy to remove in the future, just in case. I did this after I had the downpipe bolted up to my 034 hfc and had the mounting bracket secured to the transmission.

Also VCE check your pm's, I sent you a message.

They are still a big player in the VW A1 & A2 performance game. Collin is definitely the brain of the outfit. I visited their place while in Oregon. Good peep's
