    Non-OEM Battery Void Warranty?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had the dealer service the car this week and noted my car battery needs to be replaced ('08 A6 3.2). I haven't seen any issues that would make me think it is failing but apparently it came up bad on their systems test. Audi Manhattan wanted $495 for the battery and install. I laughed and passed. Audi Brooklyn wanted $330 for the battery with install. Looking not to spend that kind of cash, does anyone know if a non-OEM battery would void a CPO warranty?

non-OEM battery will not void your warranty. Classic magnuson-moss warranty act case.

Buy a reputable battery brand. Match or exceed OEM cold-cranking amps and capacity (Watt-hours). Check the physical size.

Caution here. It is true that a non-OEM battery won't void your warranty, but the battery for the A6 is a unique beast. Attached to the positive cable just off the terminal connector is what looks to be a large plastic piece. That is you power control module. This controls the amount of power the battery is putting into the system and the amount of power going into the battery from the charging system. The OEM battery is notched on the top to accommodate this unit. Non-OEM batteries don't have that notch. If you chose to go non-OEM, then this piece hangs out there precariously and if damaged is expensive to replace (like $1500 expensive).

Also make sure you get the battery coded if its non-OEM. Otherwise you'll run into a lot of weird issues.

This is helpful; I noticed this morning interior lights didn't turn on, power tailgate wouldn't open....I then checked battery level on MMI, it was at 10% (before noticing warning light on DIS indicating very low battery). I'll definitely go OEM. For a '10 A6 3.0, the battery is probably on its last legs.

Ps: Interesting that 2 dealerships in same city would charge markedly different rates for same service.
