I would say talk to a exhaust shop for a cat back should not be that much 400 or something .

For the sub look up Boost gauge DIY they will show the best way to run lines into the cabin of the car. It is easily done without drilling anything

To the OP, being that your car is a 97, probably means you have the 12V version.

To be honest with you, there isn't much you can do.

My car is a 96 2.8 and all I did was redid all of my vacuum hoses, got new spark plug wires, 2.5" custom exhaust & a 034 snub mount with cage.
The 2.8's are more of the "show car". You can lower it, get some nice rims/upgrade the brakes, etc etc and have a pretty sick looking ride.
These 2.8 engines are pretty reliable with proper maintenance and can last you a long time.

If you had the 30V 2.8 engine, you can add a chip and go more into tuning it...

Here's a video of the exhaust on my car. Pretty loud lol, but I like it.

Just wondering, Would that muffler fit on my car, If it would what did you pay for it?

I also have a 97 and i went to a custom exhaust shop and had them do a muffler delete for $100. They gave me a nice fat tip and put in a piece of pipe where the muffler was. I still have two cats and a resonator. I think it sounds really nice, not too loud. The sound tapers out at 3500 rpms and sounds the best. The shop is called Lou's Custom Exhaust. Ive even had people tell me it sounds like a truck, its loud.

Muffler will fit. I payed all together about 400 bucks. 280 dollars to have the exhaust welded, and about 120 for the Y-Pipe/Resonator

I contemplated this as well. Still thinking about it when I have to get a rebuild done.

For starters you'd have to upgrade the pistons (10:1 compression isn't ideal for boosting), valves, some head work since there is a GIGANTIC manufacturing flaw in how these IM were made. Be sure to gasket match it to the heads. Turbo's alone (quality) would cost upwards of +$1000. You'd then need custom exhaust manifolds to feed the turbo(s). I'd personally do the single turbo with pistons, valves, stock manifolds with custom piping to a single turbo (GT28R), tap the main bearings for 4 bolts, and then worry about standalone for the engine tuning since our ECU's can't be flashed (costly). Replace the stock exhaust with a single pipe HFC to the stock resonator and muffler delete. Stage 2 southbend clutch kit for added assurance of not blowing your clutch.

A MINIMUM estimate of $5000 to turbo your 12v. I'd prob buy an S4 for that, but I would miss being unique.

EDIT: I forgot about injectors. You need injectors. 430cc should do. Someone can confirm/deny this for me

Check out Motodyne, they're one of the only sites that offers performance parts specifically for the 2.8. I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm more into performance.

Alternatively get a PES G2 and then fabricate an adapter plate to match the 12v
