    Does my car have CVT or Tiptronic?

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Total noob here so please bear with me. I have a 2010 A4 nonquattro auto with paddle shifters. I was reading somewhere that only quattros have tiptronic yet when I asked my dealer for a list of options on my car, it included the 0G7 code for tiptronic. So now I'm confused as to what tranny I have, a CVT or a tiptronic?

    Quattro = tiptronic.
    FWD = CVT.

    Are you sure it isn't Quattro? FWD/CVT didn't get paddle shifters even with the sports package...

    Yeah I'm sure it's not quattro, there's no emblem on the rear. It does have the sports package however but I don't think that even adds shifters. My options list printed from the dealer today clearly states that it has the tiptronic though (code 0G7). Maybe the dealer added it inhouse? Check out my options list, specifically lines 2 and 28:

    There's also a transmission code: LKW at the top of the first page not included in the images.

    Look under the rear end of your car and check. If you see a diff, congratulations you have Quattro and didn't even know it!

    Well I wouldn't be judging this based on the lack of the quattro badge. Is there a quattro badge on the trim above your glove box?

    What I do know:
    1) Your dealer did not do a transmission conversion
    2) Sports package adds paddle shifters, but only on tiptronic (quattro) cars. This never made sense to me, because paddle shifters work perfectly fine with CVT.

    So, from the looks of it, we have two possibilities. 1) you have a quattro car 2) the option codes mistakenly showed tiptronic, and the previous owner/dealer swapped in a wheel with paddles.

    There's no quattro on top of the glovebox. I think its a Multitronic then (CVT+shifters)

    Yes. Someone swapped the wheel then - it definitely didn't come with the car.

    That's strange considering the car was owned by the dealership prior to me buying it used from them at 12000 miles. I believe the car was a loaner before that actually. Getting it back from the dealer tomorrow and Ill ask them tomorrow to get a concrete answer.

    This isnt the first car thats been on here that came with paddles and a CVT. Consider yourself very luck, adding paddles to my CVT really made a big improvement with spirited driving on demand.

    Really? I remember the audi website specifically mentioning that paddles were only added for tiptronic cars...

    My 2011 CVT A4 has paddle shifters, came with the car as part of the Sport Pkg, which is what fooled me into buying a CVT. I test drove one and put it in Sport mode off the bat and thought it was an 8 speed transmission because it simulated the gears, used the paddle shifters, liked it and went for it. Should have read up on it more or taken more time to drive the car.

    It's even on Audi's website now...

    Sport package
    Four-way power lumbar adjustment
    Three-spoke multifunction sport steering wheel (with shift paddles on automatic)
    Audi drive select
    Sport suspension calibration
    Sport front seats

    Well not everyone is a car nut or has a lot of time to obsess over every little detail. A lot of people buy cars on emotion, availabilty, opportunity to get a deal, and simply the need for a car. They drive it, like it, and then later come online asking if its CVT or TIP, quattro or not, etc. To them its just a nice car that drives well and specifics like those, or say Sport Diff for the S4, are things learned about after the fact.

    That's very true, though I'm still upset at myself 3 years later because I am a car nut, and Audi nut in particular. Problem was I wasn't even really planning on getting a car, it sort of happened on a whim and everything else about the car was exactly what I wanted (Sport Pkg, MMI, parking camera/sensors/B&O) so I got all attached...plus they gave me a good deal. Thing now though is that every day that I drive it seems all I focus on is the transmission. :/

    Totally agree. It irritates me every time I ask someone what features they got on a new car and they tell me "oh it has so many options, I don't even know what they are yet". If you don't know what they are, why did you pay for them???

    Seriouly, I can understand not knowing whether the car has single/multiple disc, I-pod connectivity, multi-zone climate etc., but any buyer worth his or her salt should know what transmission the car is equipped with; might as well be asking if the engine is a 4 or 6 cylinder. Engine and transmission are two key components of the car, as well on pricing.

    I concur...but most buyers are more concerned with creature comforts than drivetrain specifics.

    To most buyers there are 2 transmissions...manual (with a clutch pedal) and automatic. The average person who wants an 'automatic' likely doesn't know the difference between a CVT, Tiptronic, or DSG. You could explain the difference and most non-enthusiasts still wouldn't get it. They just want the one that shifts itself. As for motors. How is the average person supposed to know that a 2.0T is turbocharged yet a 3.0T is supercharged? Fender badge would be the only way to tell. From the drivers seat a 2.0T doesn't feel like a 4cyl and nor a 3.0T a 6cly. Both feel like they're bigger motors thanks to Forced Induction. Cylinder counts mean less now days. How about torsen vs. haldex quattro? Same thing, both AWD, most people won't notice a difference.

    Why is everyone here so complicated by having you look up codes and such? If you get whiplash going from 1st to 2nd gear, you have quattro, otherwise, you have a CVT.
