    R8 as Daily Driver?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Maybe it's the scotch talking or perhaps the arrival of nice weather (no more snow!?), but I'm considering trading in the RS4 for a 2009 R8 coupe that a local dealer keeps dangling in front of me. The RS4 is my daily driver on a boring 6 mile round-trip daily commute to work. I tend to prefer simplicity so keeping 1 car is the way to go for me. Who here uses their R8 as their daily driver?

My 2010 V8 is my daily. I can deal with it drinking gas as I came from a S5, its just a pain in ass getting in and out haha. Im 6'3 about 260. Its a real bitch getting in and out of it 3-4 times a day. Otherwise I love the attention and the car is just simply amazing

The R8 is just as daily-able as your RS 4, but with less space and will attract more attention.

$100,000 isn't the price range I'm shooting for.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a Lamborghini

Not sure what practical Ferrari you can get for the same price as an R8

I've owned more than one Porsche. Nice cars, but been-there-done-that

I need the AWD as well

No there aren't. All you're getting is a 360 at that pricepoint.

OP asked for advice on the R8, not what else he should buy.

Curious as to what you thought about the Porsche? Looking to get into a 997 S2 or R8 as a daily in a couple years myself.

Is there a stigma associated with the Lambos that I'm not aware of?

My friend had 2008 Audi R8 V8,He had no problem the driving the car. Actually as a passenger I felt the car was very comfortable even on bumpy roads compared to other sports cars.

From my understanding, lambo's and ferrari's are money pits from a maintenance stand point - brakes, oil changes, routine matinenance, etc. then consider longevity if you plan to keep the car for high mileage. Will a lambo or ferrari get you 100k miles without any major issues? I can see an R8 doing so but not the lambo or ferrari, at least not without the high maintenance cost.

R8 is a DD car but Lambo's and Ferrari's are weekend cars. If you have unlimited cash then things change and anything can be a DD

Yeah but why would you want a 10 year old ferrari/lambo over a brand new R8? Lets not even mention the repair costs the ferrari's/lambos will have.
OP wants a DD, R8 is the clear choice.

Newer Lamborghini's are very reliable. I just saw an SL for sale with 90,000 the other day, actually. Brakes and maintenance will cost around the same as the R8 (for a G at least). Remember, the Gallardo shares 95% of it's parts with the R8.

My R8 is my daily driver...and it's very comfortable to drive... Though having a second car that's a bit more of a beater is kinda of essential for me for those really bad weather days. Streets in Houston tend to flood, so a truck/SUV is essential for those days.

My concern is that I live in the city and pot holes/trolley tracks can be rough. The RS4 handles it nicely, so ground clearance for the R8 would be a concern.

May I ask why? To note 04-07 Gallardos are for more troublesome then the 08+. They burn clutches, have interior issues, and share very little with the R8, except for the high pressure switch for the AC. After 08 a gallardo is basically a re-skinned r8. I would forget which one I was working on when I was tech at lambo because mechanically they're identical...for some reason the R8 clients thought they might get better service at the lambo dealer, I don't know. I thought our service department was ran pretty poorly, one of the reasons I left.

I had my R8 for 18 months - drove it three days a week. Mine had a Stasis tune and exhaust. It definitely can be a daily driver. That being said, I traded it for a new RS7 and did the APR flash on that car. I now have a car that is faster, more comfortable, quieter and can carry four people and cargo. The only tradeoff is that I won't be able to drive mountain roads with the same amount of speed as with the R8. No regrets. Best of luck with your decision.

Very true however don't forget 3-less seats and no real trunk which are big factors!

I see a lot of talk and speculation but very few actual R8 owners here, mostly speculation, sheesh....
