1.8T B6 is not listed either, but the "R8" 06E 905 115E coilpacks fit and are used by a lot of A4 owners here.

we don't NEED to run a wider gap for these coils do we?

i'm assuming that we can continue to use factory style plugs without adjusting gap.

Yes you can continue to run factory spec'd plugs with standard gap.

I installed NGK Iridium plugs and I believe on the packaging it says that are pre-gaped, but should I be concerned about at least checking it?

A quick eyeball on each is good...to make sure the gaps look the same, and didnt get smashed during shipping...

I bought a set once where all 4 ceramic insulators were broken!

The guy at the parts counter believed I did it!

No indication on the box of what damage was inside...

So now I open them and look at them before driving away!

However the vast majority of parts I buy are online...and so far no problems.

I don't think most 3.0 drivers swap out their coils. There was never really a big issue with them failing on the 3.0, nor are there real issues with not getting enough spark on the 3.0. I've considered trying them out, but I was concerned about them being taller and didn't want to spend the money on 6 of them when mine are still working fine and I know the ones that are in fit fine without being too short/tall.

All valid points but I am still trying to figure out some missfire problems and was originally thinking coil packs but now it has been suggested to me that I might look into my crank or cam sensors.

Actually now that I think about it this was just when the CEL popped on. When it actually missfires really bad I look and its just telling me it missfired nothing else. I am actually wondering if my failing cats have anything to do with it.

The R8 packs are supposed to have a bit hotter spark and be a bit more reliable. So Supposedly better combustion and fuel economy.

    They're red and look cool...

JK,, Agree with above.. They are reported to support a hotter spark and be more reliable. Did mine a few weeks ago. Based on Dave's (Motoza) recommendation - I closed my gap on the NGK IX down to .32. Have a very smooth idle and seems very responsive.

I believe the coils for the 3.0 are also red, as I'm pretty sure that's what mine look like.
