H&R's are great if all you drive on is pavement with surface quality of a pool table. A good expensive tournament quality pool table. For the real world conditions, Eibach's are the way to go.

I had the eibachs for a few years. Good look and felt great on 19s.

go with eibach springs, i went the coil over route.............and would not do it again. I.E i would probably never get coilovers again.

It's going to suck you leave on the stock shocks and dont upgrade.
It will probably still suck if you upgrade your shocks. I ran HR's will bilstein sports, it was awful.

There are plenty of reasonably priced coils kits, do it right the first time, get everything dial in, and be done with it. I went with ST's and it rides exponentially better now.

I think Eibachs and Bilstein Sports is a good compromise between ride and handling. IMHO...

Why get springs when you can spend a little more for something you can fine tune the height (and maybe dampening) to exactly what you want? Raise it in the winter, drop it in the summer.

But if you want springs I have some brand new Vogtland Club Spec Lowering Springs in the SoCal classifieds

I use H&R springs on my daily. They help the car handle well. Also, perfect ride height in my opinion, and are comfortable enough even after this brutal winter tore the roads apart.

I don't have a basis for comparison on the B5... just generally happy with them.

If you do a search here for H&R you'll find more people curse them than love them. The car I rode in with them was not pleasant. It looked great just really really stiff.

I have a set of HR's you can have. To hell with those bastards. I'd much rather run a stock setup.

I have H&R springs on mine right now.

1: if you run over a blade of grass, you'll feel it
2: they drop the front pretty damn low and I scrape on alotttt of shit..and I'm not even that low compared to most other b5's
3: I just got my coils in the mail :) just get coils skip springs altogether you'll regret it after a month

H&R coilovers here. They run pretty rough but the previous owner installed them and they have been rocking (stiffly) for the last seven years. I'm gonna rock them until they go out, but they sure as hell would not have been my first choice.

Yeah, it is actually cheaper to go the Vogtland coilover route in comparison to eibach Springs and Bilstein struts.

A buddy of mine has the H&R springs, It tucks the front wheels inside the fenders. If that's what you are looking for, then go ahead but it ruins the car, and I personally think it looks awful. I have driven behind him a few times on the way home from work and that thing bounces all over the place. Not a pleasant looking ride.

buy a used set of quality coilovers like stasis tracksports or v3 coilovers and have them rebuilt. close to a grand but that's the best bang for the buck

    Gents-

Which H&R springs are most folks hating on here? Race or the Sport springs?

I just went with H&R Sports, paired with Bilstien Sports, and I dont have enough GOOD things to say about this suspension. Compared to many many other springs ive had on multiple vehicles, this is the most compliant, and comfortable ride just out of the box.

I can imagine the H&R Race springs are just a horrific ride on the street however.

the race springs are not applicable for the S4, and i cant imagine the awfulness of your previous vehicles.

there is a huge difference between blown suspension, bouncy suspension, stock suspension, mid-grade coils, and ohlins/penske.

even 911 turbo suspension feels like crap compared to penske/ohlins setups.

i'm telling you, the best bang for the buck is picking up a set of quality coilovers that are in decent shape, but the seals are leaking. rebuild them, and for a grand you've got what amounts to brand new quality coilovers.

some of the spring kits i've seen are complete disasters for rideheight and thereby throw off your alignment. get springs based on their spring rates and the ride height, then get struts to match. you want rear springs 100-400 stiffer than the front ones (probably closer to 100 on a street car), and you want 1/4" rake (front 1/4" lower than rear). lotsa people hate H&Rs and like the eibachs, but what i'm telling you is that it's the amount of drop that is the problem, and it's screwing with the vehicles alignment and isn't pairing well with the struts (underdamped/overdamped on low speed vs high speed compression) so you get a bouncy sensation in certain scenarios.

wouldnt it be less hassle just to buy brand new? Might cost a little more, but no headache of buying from someone, then sending them out

i guess so. performance shock had em in and out in a week, great communication, loads of referrals.

and it depends. if you can get a set of blown ohlins and rebuild them for around a grand, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than 3500-4500 for new ones, but the same performance. now if you're gonna get a used set of low-mid grade coils, then yeah, new probably makes more sense.

3-4g on suspension is worth it if you track the car regularly, but imho for a street car any bilstein/HR/KW coilover would be more than fine.

I'm surprised they still make those... hopefully the pss9 has been revamped.

there used to be threads (audiworld days) about them being a total scam. the compression adjuster only had 2 variations despite having 9 settings, and they did not fair well on the strut dyno.
