    Milltek Exhaust Install questions

I have a 2014 S5, and have a few questions about the install before I start the install of the resonated system:

    1. Do I need to cut the stock exhaust to install the Milltek? (per step 8)
    2. They are talking about something like WD-40 when talking about releasing fluid (step 7)?
    3. What is and where can I get exhaust assembly paste (step 12)?
    4. Do I need to jack up both the back and front to do the install? I only have 2 jack stands, and can only get either front or back up at once.

Any other suggestions for the install?

I bought the AWE downpipe removal tool as well to help out.

I hope you are not planning to do it yourself. I would definitely recommend going to an exhaust/muffler shop. they know their stuff.

I am doing it myself. What does the shop have that I don't? I don't mind taking to a shop, but Iike to do whatever I can if it's not too hard.

    1. No you don't need to cut it. The stock S5 exhaust is one piece so it's really long. Some people cut the stock exhaust as it's easier to take home but to install an aftermarket one, you won't have to cut it.
    2. You just need something to loosen up the bolts. If the car has been driving around with the stock exhaust for a few years, it may be a PITA to remove it so the instructions are telling you to soak the bolts with WD40 or something to loosen them up before trying to remove.
    3. Dunno
    4. You can do it with just jacking up the rear but it'll be tight.

Don't pay someone to install the exhaust. It's really easy to do it yourself. If you want some help, send me a PM....looks like youre in SF. I am too.

You're going to want to have a set of 4 jackstands as the exhaust goes pretty far forward, and you'll want as much room as you can get under there. You don't need to cut the stock exhaust as already stated. WD40 will work, but PB Blast or Aero Kroil are far superior. The Milltek exhaust should come with exhaust assembly paste supplied; at least I know AWE does. It helps the slip pipes to seal so you don't have exhaust leaks.

Thanks for the advice! I'll goto the store and buy two more jack stands.

It's a little unsettling having both ends up on stands though.

The car only has 40 miles on it now, think I'll need pb blast? I'll grab some anyway I guess.

    Thanks!

For starter, the shop have a lift as oppose to your garage, two jack stands.

While it is not difficult to do technically, correct tools and work area is vital. Keep in mind, when it comes to exhaust systems, installation is only 3/4 of the job. You need to align the system correctly which has been well documented as the tricky part of the installation, especially if you have SD. If you insist on doing this on your own, at least get/borrow another two jack stands and make sure you take enough precautions in case the car slips off one of them. We are not here to give you a hard time or to bruise your ego, but more like watching out for another fellow AZ member.

Definitely no ego bruised. The whole reason why I'm asking is so I know what I'm getting myself into.

I bought 2 more jacks, but I might defer to the shop on this one for alignment. I'm doing as much as I can (for fun!) and the rest professionally.

BTW, IMO the paste is useless in this case. The alignment is such a pain on these cars, chances are, you will have to loosen a joint or another to align them properly. The paste will only make loosing them that much harder. Slip joints with proper tightening of the clamps should be enough, as long as the two ends are not too far apart.

That makes sense. I think I might just end up taking this to the shop to get done right!

If you end up doing the install yourself, feel free to give us a call with any questions. The phones forward to my mobile after hours so you can reach me in the evening. The system fits really well and won't need much adjusting at all. On the front resonator, remember, the ID tag should be facing the ground. We're happy to install it at our shop in Berkeley as well.
