    P2279 Engine Light

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I cleared a P2187 light last week and yesterday morning I got a new light - P2279.

I have a 2010 A4 Quattro Manual, can anyone give me some information about this code or if it is related to 2187? I am still under warrenty through the dealership where I got my car, so I want to make sure they actually fix the problem.

    Thank you.

P2279 - Leak in Air Intake System
    Possible Symptoms

    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active

    Possible Causes

    Vacuum Leak
Intake Manifold Runner Position out of Specification
Faulty Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System or Heating Element (N79)

    Possible Solutions

    Check Intake System for Leaks
    Check Intake Manifold Runner
Check (PCV) System and / or Heating Element if applicable

    Special Notes

When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

P2187 - Bank 1; System too Lean at Idle
    Possible Causes

    Injectors leak/blocked
    Air Intake Leak (after MAF)
    Exhaust Leak

    Possible Solutions

Check Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70)
    Check Injector(s)
    Check Fuel Pump
Check Activated Charcoal Filter (EVAP) System Solenoid Valve 1 (N80)

    Special Notes

When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

    thanks for the info.

So I called the dealership and they earliest appointment they could give me was April 17th! Is it ok to drive with this light on for that long (2 weeks, approx. 500 miles)?? Or is there something I could look for myself on the intake??

Nice thread. My CEL came on about a week ago and the dealership said they couldn't see me until the 24th! I just went by autozone today and they pulled codes 2187, 2279 and 579. Don't know what 579 is but this thread has explained the other two. My car has been burning a lot of oil lately and Audi will be performing Stage 1 (for the second time) on the 24th. Assuming the issues i am having are PCV related it should be fixed then. Since Audi is covering oil consumption issues for 8 and 80000 (i am out of normal warranty at 62000) is there any way the issue i am having could be caused by the oil consumption issues so Audi will have to cover the fix if its not just the PCV problem?? Also, has anyone had stage 1 completed twice or should I demand stage 2 as well?

Is it OK to drive my car until the 24th? I put around 300 miles a week and don't know if this is the type of issue that will put my car in "limp mode" - don't want to get stuck somewhere...

I will keep you updated with what Audi says.

    Thanks all.

any luck? Because I had the same oil consumption issue and they did they ring replacement under warantee just before it expired and now 4 mo. later I am showing the same codes.

I'm thinking they failed to tighten something so the vacuum tubes are leaking or nicked, or got something in the PCV valve gasket or something else. The car still has the issue where acceleration sometimes stalls out around 2600 rpm it has had since the first couple months.

Should this be under warantee, I think so obviously as car has only 42K miles and is always garaged so its a bit much to think something has disintegrated.

I have a service scheduled to have them tell me what they would do but if its like replacing a PCV valve that is simple enough to do myself.

Any ideas about what else it could be or if it really is likely its unrelated. Does this normally happen at 5yrs/42K miles?

Vag-com Relevant section below, rest is no fault found

Also do I read this right that the issue is a one off? and it has not happened since.

If so can I just clear it and wait to see if it happens again?

Also Fuel Level is low, but not sure what that means, could it be that when I go close to running out or during a stall moment it triggered all this just once?

UpdateL been running fine for a week so rather than go in to audi I decided to just clear the fault codes above. it worked fine in the sense that those codes cleared but now the engine is failing to idle properly and misfiring non of which it used to do HELP...

am I correct in assuming the control module was compensating and when the fault was removed it stopped initially and that is why its running rough, and it should auto correct? I guess I will have to take it in...dang.

Check this thread. If your intake manifold has started to fail but not to the point where the air flapper is jammed out of position you could get the codes and symptoms you have.
To rule out the PCV you can also disconnect the hose that goes from the intake manifold to the PCV and cover the intake manifold with a thick ziplock bag and reinforce it with tape. If this fixes the rough idle and codes then the PCV is leaking too much air into the intake. I have also heard of a failing rear main seal (allowing more air into the motor and into the PCV ) cause issues as well.

I'm having similar issues (lean codes, rough idle, misfires, etc.). I put in a new PCV valve and it is not fixing the problem. I tried the test mentioned by van462 and it fixes the idle and misfires, which suggests a bad valve but as I mentioned I've replaced it and saw no change in symptoms. If the intake manifold test fixes the problems does that mean that it is definitely the PCV valve? Since replacing the valve did not work I was guessing the rear main seal may be culprit, but since blocking off the manifold seems to fix the issues it makes me second guess that as well. Could the rear main still be the problem even though blocking off the manifold fixes everything?

Blocking off the intake manifold only isolated that the air was coming in thru that port. The rear main seal can still be bad. The pcv is trying to pull a vacuum on the crankcase. If it is well sealed then the vacuum stays fairly high and little air enters the intake manifold. If the reader seal is bad, air leaks past it due to the pcv/intake manifold vacuum and enters the combustion chamber. The ECU doesn't expect this much air and detects the lean condition. Blocking off the PCV port and it solving the misfire does rule out fuel injectors and the intake manifold as problems. Another issue could be using the new part number PCV without the software revision that goes with it. It changes the parameters the ECU is looking for knowing that (some) more air will enter with the higher crankcase vacuum

    Necro...

I had this CEL, replaced the PCV, and it came back. Is the PCV the same thing as "Crankcase Breather Valve" mentioned above?

I've heard a lot of things with this issue: intake manifold, pcv, maf sensor. I think the worst thing to do is to just start replacing things. I'm calling a local shop and getting their opinion, if anything I'd love if they could at least prove that certain parts are working. I'd love to exonerate the intake manifold.

Yes they're the same thing. Yes, you probably should take it to a professional you trust.
