What are the differences that stick out on a oil cooler gasket going and a head gasket?

Very similar conditions, as far as fluids mixing, but with a headgasket you'll probably get lower compression if the head gasket blew through to the cylinders. Also, if the oil cooler seal failed (or the cooler itself failed) you'll get more oil in the coolant than coolant in your oil. This is due to the higher oil pressures, or vise versa if the coolant has higher pressures.

Do not buy an amazon oil cooler, get a genuine audi one from one of the online audi dealers. I had to replace the "OEM" cooler with an OE one as it wasn't cooling as efficiently as it could have.

    Of course it can.

Instead of doing this backwards, what codes and what symptoms are you having?

Similar question, my coolant reservoir looks a little browner than normal, not extremely horrible but definitely not 100% pink. Compression hasn't been tested but it seems okay and the car never overheats or gets remotely close to that point. Oil is always at around 200-215 degrees.

so do you have froth on the walls or you're just concerned about its color, which all old coolant tanks get to look like after few years in our engine bays.

Pressure testing the coolling system is a dead give away for faulty head gaskets.

In general blown head gaskets are a rare occurrences in B5 S4 motors

No froth on walls, but the tank is new-ish so the outside is still clear. The actual liquid coolant is starting to get a tad brown instead of pure pink. What's the best way to pressure test the cooling system?

If the oil cooler gasket failed you would have an oil
leak from that area. Headgaskets will usually cause
low compression as already stated. As far a mixing
fluids that is the similar symptom. The best way to
test your coolant system is with a coolant
system pressure tester. Its a tool that comes with
screw on adapters to fit a variety of coolant reservoirs.

if your head gasget was bad you would be breathing the essence of coolant as it exits your tailpipe

You need a coolant pressure test kit a available online Sears or local auto parts store. Amazon is good too, just make sure the appropriate coolant reservoir cap is included

I'd like to keep my car.

Pull your plugs. Oil residue or white electrodes can indicate bad head gaskets. Also, not that this has much to do with your question, but I talked to julex a while ago about the potential of blown HG's:

    Something to keep in mind.

How have you done an STK and not know that kind of thing? Not talking trash, just interesting to me.
