    Painting RS5 Calipers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

Has anyone has their brakes professionally painted so that they r painted and have a new "RS" logo on them. I am having mine done on tuesday and am trying to see if the price is right.

If anyone knows how much is should cost to have them powder coated and look professional (like the ones in the attached picture) i would love to know.

I will be painting mine the same color as the picture would love so input on that too (hopefully it helps kill the harshness of the headlight reflector)

    Thank you as always guys,

    Michael Fine

I had my Mercedes C32 calipers powdercoated for $100 through a indy shop in Culver City but I had done business with those guys for a few years. For the size of the RS5 calipers I am assuming $300-$500 range if they aren't money hungry. Also the RS5 logo is just a decal they stick on and then clearcoat over.

High temp paint is usually all you need. Powdercoating can melt the seals if you're not careful.

I had it done. Flickr changed something within their BBCode links and I'm unable to figure out how to repost in this thread. If you click my build thread, there's plenty of pictures regarding what you're talking about. A couple things...

    1. It's not a RS decal, it's paint and will have to be repainted. Note, there's no available images out there to redo the RS caliper logos correctly scaled. Who ever does it will have to take a photo, scale it in Adobe Illustrator or some other editing program, do the vector artwork, then reshoot the RS layers, three colors total. If the shop you're taking them to slaps a decal on there and sprays over it, I'll say that the longevity/durability of it is questionable.
    2. Depending on the milage of your vehicle, you may have to purchase new seals/pistons for your Brembo's, as some shops won't gut the brakes and use the old seals. Mine did, but I only had 3,000 miles on the vehicle and they were able to get the seals and pistons out with no damage....I couldn't find just sell the seals, it's a piston and seal kit. I think they were $250 a side when I checked last.
    3. They are powdercoated. Any application of paint will require heat for it to bake and adhere, so your brakes should be gutted of the seals and pistons.
    4. Any reputable paint shop should be able to paint them.

    Cost:
It was, from my recollection, $750 for all 4 corners and labor for gutting brakes.

Todd, hit the box with arrow, then the thumbtack, and select size. I preferred the previous layout.

To do it right, the caliper needs to be rebuilt. Powder coating is the preferred, more durable method.
