
So noob-tip: If your vent slats fall out and you have to reinstall the little metal connecting pieces, then use small pieces of masking tape to affix the metal connector to the vent slat pivot points. It took a couple attempts for me, and the only pic I have is from a preliminary attempt, but the idea is to use a very small strand of tape to loop around the metal and plastic pivot so as to prevent the metal piece from falling off. Once all 3 slats are seated in the vent and you've locked them in with the chrome trim outline, cut half of each loop with an x-acto knife and pull out the tape with some pliers.
Would have done this too: drill a large hole out of the vent assembly and feed the cord through that instead of through the back. If paranoid, then figure out some kind of rubber boot that you can put to prevent air from entering the fusebox area. Not that I really care about adjusting the vent, but the cord has pretty much removed all movement of the slats (which was the whole point of reassembling correctly
