Who has a functioning Dension Gateway Pro on their RNSE?

I hear a lot of people talk about these like they are supposed to be quite good, I'm not sure if I got a bad one, or if I am leaving out a step somewhere.

Here is what I have going- The car has the factory rnse and the technology package, I have a 4th gen ipod classic and a 1st gen touch, I have purchased the dension gateway pro gwp1ac1, the enfig ipo5dc9 cable, a spare aux cable, and the dension ext1cp2 connector port kit. The ipod cable is in the first port on the left, the connector port is plugged into the next port and top usb port. I have tried unplugging everything and plugging everything back in several times, as well as the reset button, and nothing seems to make a difference. I'm also not totally clear on what the bypass switch does? It doesn't seem to change anything either. Typically the blue light is solid on the port connector.

Here are the issues I am having, the first is that I am frequently unable to switch between sources, sometimes when I plug in my ipod it comes up as ipod UI, and sometimes it comes up as ipod GW, and I have no idea what makes the difference, I can't see any correlation in the order I hook up the ipod and what is displayed. I am not able to switch between the two when it's plugged in, and even when it does come up as ipod gw, it rarely displays track titles in the cluster, most of the time it just says ipod gw in the display. While this is taking place and it is reading ipod gw in the cluster, sometimes I am able to change tracks with the left scroll wheel, and sometimes I am not. I have paired my phone with it, my phone seems to see it and connect just fine, but I cannot get the phone menu to come up in the center display. In fact the menu button doesn't seem to do anything consistently, sometimes tapping the menu button will bring up the source menu, then tapping it again will change tracks (without scrolling, just 1 tap equals different song ), sometimes it doesn't do anything.

Is there something that needs coded in vag com? I have a hex can cable if I need to change something, the paper that came with it says you may need to code the phone and media settings from model year 2011 on, I have an 06 and can't see anything obvious to change.

I will get some pictures, and hopefully a video up asap, until then any one have any words of wisdom? I was really expecting this to be a twenty minute install, I am over 4 hours into tinkering with this now and can't seem to make any progress, there must be something I am missing.

I don't have a RSN-E but I have a GW Pro BT working with my Symphony II+. You have to code your car to use the phone. I had the same issue and had to track down someone with a VAG COM in my area.

    Check this, the recoding part:

As far as the Dension unit goes, mine works fine 99% of the time. I have this issue when sometimes (but not very often) the USB port doesn't recognize my USB key. I have to stop the car completely for it to "reboot". The phone connection isn't very stable with my Galaxy S3, sometimes it will disconnect mid-call. Very annoying. But I don't use the phone much, so I don't really care. Sound quality on my end is good, but the mic is crap and the voice on the other end isn't that good (so I'm told).

Otherwise, it's all good and I didn't have any issue with it and my Symphony II+. Just plugged it in using the provided connector... I installed the mic in the OEM location though, so that took a little more time...

But I never used the iPod integration feature. I use only USB and A2DP...

Maybe there's a problem with your iPod connector... Did you try with a USB key with some MP3s on it?

Thanks I did that coding and it worked flawlessly for about 5 minutes, I now have the phone menu working and it seems that the left scroll wheel will now change tracks every time so long as the switch on the controller is set to active. I had titles in the cluster for about 5 minutes, was able to do abc searches for artist, album, playlist and could even select between ipod gw, ipod ui, and gw aux. I pulled the key out to open the shop door, and when I got back in the car it was just displaying ipod gw again, I unplugged the ipod switched back to the sd card slot, switched back to cd, plugged the ipod back in, and still it just says ipod gw, no track titles, no searching. I tried resetting the controller, and the rnse, but that also made no difference. The phone menu will come up every time now, so that's good I guess, but not at all why I bought this unit

I notice in the enfig demo video below in the b7 s4 with this gateway they used the ext2cp9 controller, the guy I talked to on the phone said I needed the ext1cp2, in fact I originally ordered with no controller, they emailed me and said I needed to contact them, they said I needed this controller because it was glitchy without a controller, and that they didn't offer support without it, I said ok, add it to the order. Did I get the wrong thing, or is this an updated version? What are you guys running?

Funny, I don't have a controller. I didn't feel I was needing it, and at the time they didn't care. I just noticed what they added on their page now, that the controller is an essential part, and that they won't offer support without it. It wasn't there at the time.

The recoding was just to activate the phone and won't fix your other issues.

I think you have a bad connection, or a bad unit for it to behave so erratically.

I don't have an RNS-E, I've got a Symphony II and apart from a few minor blunders on my part, it's working pretty well right now. I haven't used the iPod integration via USB as much as I've just set up A2DP and just use that 99% of the time. I only leave an iPod cable in the car for charging my phone an letting my mates play their music. The few times my mates have played their music we haven't experienced any issues.

Also, this ext1cp2 controller you speak of isn't a controller, it's simply an extension module so you can plug in both an USB flash drive as well as your iPod/iPhone at the same time as well as an AUX input for anything other than an iOS device. So I doubt that the ext1cp2 plays any part in the issues you're having. I would suggest getting in contact with the guys at Dension, they've been pretty helpful the few times I've had to get some issues resolved. I managed to jump into a live chat session with one of the tech support guys and got him to work with me in resolving a number of my issues in one go.

So, did you finally fix your issues?
