B8.5 S4 Dash Cluster Trim Piece Removal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone know how to remove the dash cluster trim piece on a B8.5 S4. It seems like such a thing piece of plastic that I am afraid to crack. Any help on how to remove it without damaging it would be much appreciated.

Search is your friend. 3 seconds of googling "b8 s4 trim removal" and this is the first result. http://ocarbon.com/blog/2010/06/b8-a...removal-guide/

I installed the P3 yesterday, and pulled almost the entire trim piece off. But I didn't get the part to the upper right of the MMI, that clip seemed extremely stuck in there and I wasn't trying to get the whole thing off. I'd recommend using a standard plastic trim removal piece and slowly working along the bottom from left to right. Then get underneath the left vent and start to pull out. Work along the top and eventually work across. Like I said, didn't want to break things so I left the top right clipped in.

Yea, so you don't have either car...the trim removal process is different for the B8.5 than the B8 because the B8 doesn't have a contiguous piece...

exactly, the trim piece is more difficult to get out on the b8.5. so those steps dont really apply for the most part. Ill try doing what you said though.

Its essentially the same as the B8, but the tabs are in slightly different locations. You wedge a plastic trim tool under the bottom edge (or something else flat and thin, with some tape on the end of it to make sure you don't scratch anything), and work from one side to the other until you've released all the tabs on the bottom. Then you can pull out with your hands to release the tabs on the top. It may seem like you're going to break it, but you won't.

Hey, do me a solid and keep an eye out for this piece, it fell onto my feet this morning and I have no idea where from. I presume it's a clip that holds the trim to the car somewhere behind the steering wheel. Thanks!

It's one of the tabs that holds the vent and MMI pieces in place:

Locations of the tabs, for those trying to remove it. Like I said earlier, just make sure the bottom ones are disengaged by prying along the bottom edge, then the piece can be pulled out with your hands. It seems like you're going to break it, every time. I've done A LOT of these removals and I still get nervous cause it always seems like its not going to come free, but I haven't broken one yet:

the big difference between a B8.5 and the b8 is that in the b8.5 you have to remove the entire trim piece from the left vent to the MMI screen. B8 is split into two around the steering column. Otherwise it is fairly similar. But a trim removal tool is your friend in these things so you can pull up at the tabs instead of somewhere away from the tabs where you would risk breaking it.

    edit:
here's a screencap of the instructions.
