Looking to purchase my first S4, but I'm a big guy

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is the car small inside? I'm 6'3 280lbs bulky like a tight end in football. I have been out of the modded car work for about 5 years due to company car requirements, but my previous car was an 07 supercharged mustang gt that ran 12's at the track. Looking for quarto and some power now that I live in the NJ snow.

The seats do move back Jeremy Shockey, so you will fit just fine.
Don't expect anyone with legs to sit behind you though.

Go sit and test drive one. If the seats feel small due to the bolsters, then it won't work for you. Would you buy jeans without trying them on first and solely on people's input? Make sure it's an S4 you sit in and not something like an A4. Not the same thing on the inside where it counts. If an S4 is too small an S6 might be a better fit, but the price will be higher.

I am just under 6'4", the ceiling height in the S4 is good, but there isn't much legroom in the rear behind you. You've got 120+lbs on me so I can't comment on the seats, but I suggest going and sitting in one. I suspect they'll be fine.

Lol yeah I've only been able to drive around 3 in my cars unless the person behind me can cross their legs Indian style ;)

I could always lose weight too! I do need to go sit in one but I'm really trying to finish paying off the last couple grand on my student loan before I jump into a 35k used car.

Needless to say I'm very excited for boost again.

Just lower the seat all the way, hell I'm 6 ft and I have the seat lowered all the way down also. It just feels more comfortable that way for me. The bolsters are cool but you definitely have to adjust yourself properly to be completely comfortable. I was always used to sitting however I felt like it in previous cars.

I'm 6'4 at 225, so you've got some size one me, but I fit comfortably without issues. If I put the seat all the way back it's wayyyy too far back so I think you will be good there. The only thing that might feel tight for you are the side bolsters.

same size as me give or take a few lbs, just don't try and drive in a big coat and think you'll be able to find the seat belt clip easily (I fit in with room to spare)

I'm 6-4, 240 (but have been up to 260) and fit fine with seat all the way back and down. Plenty of leg and head room. As others suggested no one will be able to sit behind you and bolsters require getting used to. As you suggest, dropping some weight will help. (Speaking from experience... Not being judgmental.)

The other thing to get used to depending on what you drive now is getting in and out. Should be easier for someone younger... I paid off student loans years ago.

I don't think legroom is the main issue, as others have found that it is doable. The other question is whether the sport seat upper side bolsters are comfortable. If you have a large upper body ( Dick Butkus comes to mind) then the sport seats may be a little snug.....try one on first.

I am tall, but lanky as well.

A little taller and it would pose somewhat of a problem for me though.

I'm 6'3" and 270lbs. I fit in the S4 just fine. I was worried as well about the S4 but I have no complaints. When I have 4 people in my car and going to dinner or something I have my wife sit behind me, she's 5'7". But I think the true test is when I have my 200lbs English Mastiff in the back seat and I have my drivers seat exactly where I want it without any problems. He can move around back there too.

Look at the A6 3.0T same engine, same modifications (mostly) but no DSG transmission or manual. (You get the 6-speed ZF) PLENTY of room in the A6. Not a track-star, but with a stage 2+ setup will run in the 12's if you want some power. I love mine.

Well Im 6´6 and 220 and the only problem that i have is getting into the car, its a long way down to touch the seat jaja, but everything works out properly, also have the seat all the way down and it may sound weird but I dont have the seat all the way back!

The B8 platform is surprisingly comfortable for big fellas like us!

I had a C6 A6 before my S4 and loved it, but it is a very different driving experience with dual clutch vs. 6 speed (or 8 speed in C7). Both the A6 and S4 have plenty of room for the driver and the A6 has more room in the backseat, but it would still be tight for an adult to sit behind a driver with the driver's seat all / most of the way back in an A6 (vs. impossible in the S4). I happen to have a C7 loaner today:

Aside from space, the bolsters on the S4 seats are a big difference, but I prefer the S4 seats to A6 for spirited driving. Don't get me wrong, I like the A6, but other than price-wise IMO it probably isn't the car to compare to an S4 if someone wants and S4.

Def try it out. That was one of the reasons I went with the S4, very comfortable. My buddy is 6'8", 300lbs, and fits fine. Just difficult for people to sit behind him, but has been done.

Not that you came here for dietary support, but my brother has a 1963 356 cabriolet, but his partner was too large to drive it. He was so upset and determined.....he lost the weight and enjoys driving the car regularly.
Maybe a super bad S4 is what you need to help?

Of course, you could buy an RS7......

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on test driving one this weekend. Student loan should be paid off in 6 weeks so with no debt and a decent income I'm looking forward to having a sporty car again. Is 1200-1500 normal for exhaust? Seems like Audi performance parts are a bit more Han American cars. (Never owned anything but ford)

You're a tad low, i would expect 1800-2100 for the exhaust and install can be DIY'ed or should be less than $200

My father is 6' 240lb and hated the S seats. Guess it comes down to preference. You will be smashing the side bolsters for sure with a big frame.

I hated them when I first sat in them too because I wasn't used to them. Did he try them once / few times vs. get used to them after driving in them for a while?

He drives mine once a in a while and still doesn't like them. He doesn't like the side bolstering. He's not very overweight but he has a bears frame. Its not the first time I've heard of a big guy saying he isn't comfortable in sport seats. That is why I said he should just go test drive the car. An amazing sight was my 6'2 270lb friend sitting passenger in my STi.

Agreed. He should definitely test one and try to spend as much time as possible in one. Since the bolsters can't be adjusted (like in $3,000 P-car seats) you are stuck with them whether you like them or not. In my case I had a couple of pretty good test drives + sitting in car on lot where I went from hating them to not noticing them. Once I got the car home it probably took a couple of weeks to get the seat positioned just right to love them.

Ask for an extensive test drive by yourself. All dealers are willing to do it.
