Check Engine Light on After Air Filter install -- Car issues!

Need some help here.. So yesterday i changed my air filter from OEM to AFe pro Dry. Did the switch, started car and no issues. Today, while driving the car the check engine light came on. Later on when i parked my car i toggled around with the air intake box and just to see if everything was okay. (when installing my filter yesterday and trying to put the air box back on and a clip fell off but the box fit back in) I tried starting my car and the car wouldn't start. The starter would go off but the car wouldn't pick up. Tried again a few minutes later and car started, took it home.

I took the Afe filter out thinking i might have installed it wrong. I decided to put the OEM filter back in ( Car is under warranty don't want dealership blaming me for the problem) Tried starting car, car would't start again. Went inside, had a beer came back and tried again and the car started but the check engine light was still on. The air box isn't fitting as snug as it should, probably because of the clip breaking off when i tried to put it back together but it is on. Maybe the air box is sucking in enough air for the car to start? I don't know if the car will start tomorrow. But does anyone know what the problem could be?

I need to drive the car tomorrow and dealership isn't open till Monday. Would you guys say it is okay now? I am not sure why the check engine light would come on or why my car wouldn't start. All i did was change the air filter!

Thanks so much for any input.

So the only things involved with changing the air filter is unplugging the air sensor, opening the lid to the air box, and putting it all back in. If everything was 100% okay before the air filter swap, then I would just double check that the air sensor was reconnected properly.

Could you explain what clip you broke? Your air box might not be sitting as properly because there are 2 plungers at the bottom of the box. They fit into 2 holes in the frame. You can reach under the airbox while its in to feel for the holes and make sure they are in there. If you take the box completely out you'll see it much easier.

Main things to check are air sensor and the airbox bolts to make sure everything is sealed properly. And the plungers at the bottom to make sure its seated right.

I'm not to sure where the clip fell from. I think it was part of the air box but uncertain. Just heard something fall. I put in the airbox to match the clips. Car seems to have started fine. I took the sensor in and out. Slid the sensor in till I heard a clicking noise. Check engine light is still on unfortunately. Does it need to be reset, or will it eventually disapear? Could the cause of the light be from damage on the sensor, or intake box not in properly?

Thanks so much for your help!
