Snap-on Solus Ultra & VAG com coding!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, just wanted to share if you know anyone with a snap-on solus ultra...and probably any advanced snap-on scanner that is up-to-date - has the ability to change coding!

I've been lurking for the past few weeks of owning my A4 B7 S-line ti package, and I thought I'd mess around with our scanner to see what I could pull up.

Basically in expert mode, you can access any of the control modules. Once your in a control module...say 09 Central Electronics you access ECU coding.
From there it brings you into a screen where you can view the software code and WCS(workshop code).

I successfully turned off all chimes, one button unlock all doors, control windows via keyfob, and euro lights with fogs & high beams.

Just thought I'd share the news since most techs have access to the popular snap-on products.
I'm pretty sure our old snap-on solus can do it as well, I just haven't had time to verify.

Okay. Sounds great, ...What am I missing? Are you endorsing an interface that costs $2500 used (just a quick search, maybe I've found the wrong results?) vs. an interface designed specifically for Audi and VW that does the same thing, but costs about 10% of that price and comes with support, upgrades, and near dealer level control?

I mean, good information and all, but until something "like" VCDS is released at $150 I wont be switching!

I'm simply stating that the snap-on solus and solus ultra can indeed do the same coding change functions.

    Wow.

Why don't you read what I said entirely.
I simply stated that most techs who would have access to one of these scanners, or even know someone who does - can change coding essentially for free versus buying VAG com cable & software.
Where did I state, imply or endorse =

I even searched before went out to my car and tried it, I found one thread with no replies. This just helps more & more people.

That's pretty awesome! Thanks for the info!

I know quite a few people with that scanner. Good to know...

Don't worry about the pessimistic attitude here. Very cynical place...

Sorry, I wasn't being cynical or pessimistic, I just didn't know if I'd honestly found the right tool. My intent was seriously NOT to detract from your post, every bit of info for diagnostics on these cars IS valuable. Sorry I came across that way.
I've heard about Solus and a dozen other interfaces..but to say 'most techs have access' to it ...is a little optimistic. I live in a city that is close to 70k people and a HUGE number of European cars and not a single shop has Solus- unless the $billion dollar Toyota kingpin does, but they're assholes.

    No biggie.
Yeah in an area with a primarily European based auto market the snap-on units are lack luster. They really developed the software for US domestic vehicles and Japan domestic vehicles as they're main target. Though they have improved the euro software capabilities.

As a used car tech. It's a nice scanner, the ultra is a very speedy scanner and I'm lucky my workplace provides the unit for me at no cost. Though limited, it does hold its own.
If I were to be forced into the decision of buying a scanner(that covers all vehicle makes) I'd consider other options IMO.
